The pair took down No. 5-ranked Vukadin/Smith of Clemson in the finals.

DURHAM, N.C. – Highlighted by doubles champions Luciano Tacchi and Luca Pow, the Wake Forest men's tennis team wrapped up a successful appearance at the ITA Carolina Regionals Monday afternoon in Durham, N.C.

After advancing through the first round due to a walkover, Tacchi and Pow picked up dominant 8-2 victories in the round of 32 and round of 16 against Tripathi/Dixon (Coastal Carolina) and M. Pitts/N. Pitts (Clemson), respectively. The duo then knocked off No. 59-ranked Melnic/Jarry of North Carolina, 8-5.

In the semifinals, they battled back against Duke's Winegar/Landau after dropping the first set and earned a 5-7, 6-3 [10-8] victory and advanced to the finals, where they faced the No. 5-ranked pair of Vukadin/Smith of Clemson. After once again facing a set deficit, Tacchi/Pow claimed the Carolina Regional Championship with an electric 3-6, 6-1 [11-9] win.

The victory automatically qualified them for the NCAA D1 Individual Championships hosted by Baylor on Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas.

Wake Forest also had three other doubles pairs reach at least the round of 16 with Ioannis Xilas/DK Suresh Ekambaram, Harry Thursfield/Jamieson Nathan and Martin Mazev/Alexander Shalmi all picking up multiple victories in Durham over the weekend.

In singles, the Deacs placed seven in the main draw with Joaquin Guilleme and Alexander Shalmi playing themselves in with two victories each in qualifying.

In his Wake Forest debut, Shalmi shocked No. 57-ranked Luca Staeheli of NC State (6-2, 1-6, 6-2) and advanced to the round of 32.

No. 26 Suresh battled his way to the semifinals with four dominant victories throughout the weekend until he narrowly fell in a hard-fought battle against No. 16 Pedro Rodenas of Duke (6-2, 4-6, 6-7).

In addition to their doubles success, No. 81 Tacchi and No. 95 Pow both notched straight-set singles victories in the round of 64.

With his victory over Duke's Jake Krug (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) No. 97 Ioannis Xilas made it five Demon Deacons in the second round of the singles bracket.
