Demon Deacons Competing Last Time Out
Highlighted by doubles champions Luciano Tacchi and Luca Pow, the Wake Forest men's tennis team wrapped up a successful appearance at the ITA Carolina Regionals Monday afternoon in Durham, N.C.
After advancing through the first round due to a walkover, Tacchi and Pow picked up dominant 8-2 victories in the round of 32 and round of 16 against Tripathi/Dixon (Coastal Carolina) and M. Pitts/N. Pitts (Clemson), respectively. The duo then knocked off No. 59-ranked Melnic/Jarry of North Carolina, 8-5.
In the semifinals, they battled back against Duke's Winegar/Landau after dropping the first set and earned a 5-7, 6-3 [10-8] victory and advanced to the finals, where they faced the No. 5-ranked pair of Vukadin/Smith of Clemson. After once again facing a set deficit, Tacchi/Pow claimed the Carolina Regional Championship with an electric 3-6, 6-1 [11-9] win.
The victory automatically qualified them for the NCAA D1 Individual Championships hosted by Baylor on Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas.
