Two Deacs are inside the top 10.
FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 15 Wake Forest women's golf team leads the 11-team field by three strokes after the first 36 holes of play at the Charles Schwab Women's Fall Collegiate, hosted by TCU.
The Deacs led all teams in scoring on par fours and were second in scoring on par fives, capitalizing on reachable greens and going -10 across all the par fives for the day. As a team, Wake was second in the field in birdies with 30 behind Oklahoma State's 33. Sophomore Macy Pate finished the day third in the field in scoring on par fours and second in birdies with eight over her two rounds.
Pate was the low Deac of the day, going two under in her opening round and one over in her second round to finish the day one under and T4. The sophomore's first nine holes were very steady, making the turn at one under after a birdie on the par-four eighth hole. After a bogey-birdie-bogey to start her second nine, she birdied two of her final three holes in the round to finish the first 18 at two under. She again made the turn of the second round at one under but went two over on her final nine holes of the day to finish one over ahead of tomorrow's final round.
Junior Carolina Chacarra joins Pate inside the top 10, heading into Tuesday's final round T8. She also had a steady start to the day, with back-to-back birdies before the first round turn to start the second nine one under. An eagle on the par-five eighteenth was a highlight for the senior to keep her at one under for the round. Chacarra kept the momentum with four birdies on her first nine holes of the second round to make the second turn at two under. She finished with a scorecard of a one-over 72 and even par on the day.
Freshman Denisa Vodickova and junior Anne-Sterre den Dunnen are both T15 heading into Tuesday's final round. Vodickova started the day consistent, with three birdies and two bogeys in her opening round. She started the second 18 holes of the day one under par and recorded two more birdies on the first nine holes of her second round before finishing three over for the round and two over for the day.
Den Dunnen also had a relatively smooth first 18 holes, recording three birdies and finishing one over. The second round was more tumultuous, with the junior recording four birdies in the round but still finishing one over for the round and two over for the day.
Tuesday's Final Round
The final round of play will begin Tuesday morning with a shotgun at 9:30 a.m. ET. Wake Forest will begin on holes 1-4 and will be paired with Oklahoma State and Texas A&M. Live scoring will be available all day via Scoreboard.
