Deacons to Bring in No. 1 Pitt and No. 10 SMU for Weekend Tests

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest volleyball (13-14, 5-11 ACC) remains at home this weekend, bringing in No. 1 Pitt and No. 10 SMU on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Both matches can be viewed on ACC Network Extra.

The Demon Deacons most recently hosted Big Four rival NC State at home this past Saturday (Nov. 16).

The Matches
Friday, Nov. 22
Wake Forest vs. No. 1 Pitt – 7 p.m. ET

Sunday, Nov. 24
Wake Forest vs. No. 10 SMU – 12 p.m. ET

Fan Information and Weekend Promotions
There will continue to be free admission for general admission seating for all home volleyball single matches. The team plays each home contest in Varsity Arena, located on the second level of Reynolds Gymnasium (21 Wingate Rd, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27109).

Wake Forest Athletics is committed to providing the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina within a safe and fan-friendly environment. Friday's contest versus Pitt will act as the team's Mental Health Awareness match, as resources and items will be available to promote mental health. Sunday will involve 'Seniors and Graduates Day' for the program, recognizing the 2024-25 class in a post-match ceremony:

Last Time Out
Saturday, Nov. 16 – NC State 3, Wake Forest 2
A rematch between Wake Forest and NC State turned into a five-set thriller this past Saturday evening, with the Deacons hosting the Wolfpack inside Varsity Arena. Wake Forest gave effort up to the very end but suffered a 3-2 defeat.

Paige Crawford recorded her second double-double of the year and first within Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, finishing with 18 kills and 10 digs. The junior hitter was efficient with a .311 attacking percentage.

Becca Bellows had a double-double of her own, going for 21 assists and 10 digs. The freshman setter also dished out three service aces. Rian Baker posted 20 assists, eight digs and two service aces.

Defensively, Emma Farrell and Dior Charles were standouts with 18 digs and seven blocks, respectively. Olivia Murphy contributed eight kills and four blocks while Olivia Franke chipped in five kills and four blocks.

Junior Duo
Throughout the past several weeks, juniors Paige Crawford and Emma Farrell have continued to anchor the team's offense and defense, respectively.

Crawford has totaled 10 or more kills in seven of her last nine showings, including four of 17 or more. Her most recent performance, 18 kills and 10 digs versus NC State last Saturday (Nov. 16), involved the Wimberley, Texas, native tying her season high in kills and recording her third double-double of the year. Crawford has notched 15 or more kills on seven separate occasions this fall.

Over the last month, dating back to an Oct. 20 victory at Notre Dame, Farrell has collected 150 digs in 30 sets played. She currently stands third in ACC play in digs, with a 4.31 per-set average. Five different matches within conference play have featured 20-plus digs by the libero. Farrell is coming off a week in which she totaled 37 digs in eight sets played, good for a 4.62 per-set average.

Down the Stretch of November
With four regular-season matches left on the schedule, four Deacs continue to hold top-10 spots in ACC statistical categories:
As a team, Wake Forest continues to rank fifth in the ACC in blocks (2.57/set). The Deacons are one of two member schools to have multiple individual players stand in the top 10 for blocks.

Scouting the Opposition
Topping the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Coaches Poll, Pitt is 25-1 overall on the year with a 15-1 record in conference play. The Panthers lead the league in points, hitting percentage and service aces. Pitt has won each of its last 10 matches.

SMU (21-6, 13-3 ACC) is on a six-match winning streak and has gone 9-2 on the road. The Mustangs are second and third within the ACC in service aces (1.79/set) and hitting percentage (.276), respectively, as middle blocker Natalie Foster is a top-three league individual in both of those areas. SMU is set to visit NC State on Friday evening (Nov. 22) before its Sunday matchup with Wake Forest.

Up Next
The final week of the regular season will see Wake Forest firstly make the short trip to Durham for a midweek contest at Duke (Nov. 27) before hosting Florida State in a home finale on Sunday afternoon.
