Deacs to Visit Duke and Host No. 21 Florida State for Final Regular-Season Week

Thanksgiving week will see Wake Forest volleyball split time at home and on the road.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest volleyball (13-16, 5-13 ACC) has reached its final week of the 2024 regular season, set to travel to nearby Durham for a Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 27) matchup at Duke before returning to Varsity Arena on Friday to host No. 21 Florida State in a home finale.

Fans can view both matches on ACC Network Extra.

The road contest against the Blue Devils will involve Wake Forest's fifth Big Four showing of the fall and second midweek appearance.

Wake Forest faced both Duke and Florida State earlier this season on October 11th and November 8th, respectively.

Fan Information
There will continue to be free admission for general admission seating for all home volleyball single matches. The team plays each home contest in Varsity Arena, located on the second level of Reynolds Gymnasium (21 Wingate Rd, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27109).

Wake Forest Athletics is committed to providing the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina within a safe and fan-friendly environment. A 'Black Friday' theme will headline the contest versus Florida State, featuring a black t-shirt giveaway for all fans. In addition, spectators can enter a raffle for football fan appreciation and the opportunity to win four tickets to the football team's Senior Day versus Duke on Saturday (Nov. 30).

Last Time Out
Friday, Nov. 22 – No. 1 Pitt 3, Wake Forest 0
An electric atmosphere took over Varsity Arena last Friday night, as Wake Forest hosted No. 1 Pitt for its 28th match of the year. The Deacs created several tightly-played moments through competitive rallies but fell to the Panthers in a 3-0 defeat (18-25, 14-25, 20-25).

For the second time this year, a new home attendance record was set during the evening, as 866 spectators filled up the gym. The total surpassed the previous mark of 847 that happened earlier this season on Sept. 27 versus Virginia.

Paige Crawford totaled 10 kills on one of her most efficient hitting performances of the year, ending with a .350 attacking clip. She also chipped in six digs.

Emma Farrell led all players in digs with 11 while also adding five assists to her line. Sahara Maruska finished with 10 kills and five digs.

Setters Rian Baker and Becca Bellows notched 15 and 13 assists, respectively, as the former also collected eight digs. Olivia Murphy contributed five kills while Olivia Franke and Laila Ricks had four apiece.

Sunday, Nov. 24 – No. 10 SMU 3, Wake Forest 0
Facing a top-10 national foe for the second time in three days, Wake Forest hosted No. 10 SMU on Sunday afternoon. The Deacons again battled through three competitive frames, but fell to the Mustangs in a 3-0 finish (25-17, 25-19, 25-20).

Paige Crawford finished as the match leader in kills with 11, doing so on a .304 hitting percentage.

Emma Farrell also led all individuals in her area, finishing with 13 digs. Dior Charles and Laila Ricks impressed on the defensive side as well with three blocks apiece, with the latter going 7-for-14 on her attacks.

Setters Rian Baker and Becca Bellows notched 14 and 13 assists, respectively, while Olivia Murphy chipped in six kills.

Join the Club
In the Deacons' latest outing, versus SMU (Nov. 24), Paige Crawford crossed over 1,000 career kills, becoming the 12th multi-year player in program history to reach the milestone.

For the third consecutive season, Crawford has acted as the team leader in kills, currently standing at 307. It marks the third year in a row in which the Wimberley, Texas, native has piled up 300-plus in a single season.

Through her last 11 showings, Crawford has totaled 10 or more kills nine times, including four performances of 17 or more. Additionally, she has notched 15-plus kills on seven separate occasions this fall.

Still Three
Heading into its final pair of regular-season matches, Wake Forest has three players still ranked within the ACC's top 10 for individual areas. Tina Grkovic moved her way up one spot in blocks following week 13:

Scouting the Opposition
Duke stands at 9-20 overall on the year with a 5-13 clip in conference play. The Blue Devils rank fifth in digs as a team among the league (14.82/set). Four different players rest within four separate statistical columns for ACC individuals.

Florida State (20-8, 12-6 ACC) bumped its way up to No. 21 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) team rankings, coming off wins over Georgia Tech and Clemson. The Seminoles will host SMU on Wednesday (Nov. 27) before visiting Wake Forest. Florida State is third and fifth in the ACC in hitting percentage (.276) and kills (13.39/set), respectively.
