Coach Bresky Announces 2025 Spring Schedule

The Demon Deacons will open the 2025 campaign at home on Sunday, Jan. 12 against Tennessee Tech and ETSU.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Following an incredible 2024 campaign that saw the Demon Deacons reach the third Final Four in program history, head coach Tony Bresky officially unveiled the 2025 spring slate for the Wake Forest men's tennis program Thursday afternoon.

"We are very excited to reveal our schedule for the spring 2025 season," Bresky said. "The ACC schedule is extremely strong and the additions of California, SMU and Stanford will make for some new conference matchups. As always, our out-of-conference schedule matches us up with some of the best teams in the country. We are also excited to host ITA Kickoff weekend at home again this year. We can't wait to have the best tennis fans in the nation come and support us again this season, go Deacs!"

The Demon Deacons' 2025 schedule features five teams that ended the 2024 season ranked in the top 10 and seven teams that ended the season ranked in the top 20.

The Schedule
The Demon Deacons will open the 2025 season on Sunday, Jan. 12 inside the Wake Forest Tennis Center as they host a double-header against Tennessee Tech and ETSU.

Wake Forest will hit the road for the first time as it heads to Waco, Texas for a rematch against the Baylor Bears on Jan. 17 before returning home to host another tough power-four opponent in Tennessee on Jan. 19.

From Jan. 24-25, the Deacs will host ITA Kickoff weekend, welcoming Charlotte, North Carolina and Memphis to the Wake Forest Tennis Center for a chance to qualify for the ITA National Indoors in Waco/Dallas, Texas (Feb. 14-18).

In between Kickoff Weekend and National Indoors, the Deacs will take-on three 2024 NCAA Tournament teams as Georgia (Feb. 1) and Ohio State (Feb. 2) visit Winston-Salem before the Deacs head to New York for a battle with Columbia (Feb. 8).

Conference play will begin with the Deacs welcoming ACC newcomers Stanford (Feb. 28) and Cal (March 2) to the Wake Forest Tennis Center. The following weekend, Wake Forest will head north to take on Virginia Tech (March 7) and Virginia (March 9).

The regular-season home finale will take place on April 6, as Wake Forest hosts Boston College and Coastal Carolina in a double-header. The Deacs will close out the regular-season six days later at NC State on April 12.

The 2025 ACC Men's Tennis Championships will be held in Cary from April 18-20 at Cary Tennis Park.

The Bresky Era
Since arriving at Wake Forest, head coach Tony Bresky has enjoyed a decorated career, winning ITA National Coach of the Year in 2018, along with garnering ACC Coach of the Year honors in 2013 and 2016. Additionally, Bresky has been tabbed ITA Regional Coach of the Year on five occasions (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2024). Of note, Bresky led Wake Forest to its first-ever national title in 2018, after accumulating a 33-2 mark.

Individually, Bresky has coached two ACC Players of the Year (Noah Rubin and Melios Efstathiou), along with 35 All-ACC selections and 10 ITA Singles All-Americans.

During his tenure at Wake Forest, Bresky has amassed 299 wins. Of note, early in 2023 with a victory over No. 6 Tennessee, Bresky became the winningest coach in program history, surpassing the legendary Jim Leighton.

Bresky's teams have also excelled in the classroom during his stint in Winston-Salem, as he's coached 22 All-ACC Academic Team honorees and an ACC Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Brian Baker, Associate Head Coach
A former ATP world No. 52 singles and No. 29 doubles professional player, Brian Baker enters his second season with the Wake Forest men's tennis staff after spending the previous three years at the United States Tennis Association (USTA), in charge of developing junior players.

In his role with the USTA, Baker served as the main USA federation coach at the junior grand slams and coached Bruno Kuzuhara to No. 1 in the junior world rankings and a victory at the Junior Australian Open in 2022. Additionally, Baker coached Michael Zheng to the finals of the Junior Wimbledon Championships in 2022 and Learner Tien to the finals of the Junior Australian Open in 2023.

Prior to his work with the USTA, Baker had stops as an assistant coach at Belmont and Vanderbilt over a six-year span.

Baker enjoyed a decorated playing career, as he represented Team USA in singles and doubles at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Additionally, Baker won main draw matches at all four grand slams, including reaching the final 16 at Wimbledon in 2012. Of note, Baker owns a singles victory over Novak Djokovic.

Vinny Gillespie, Assistant Coach
A former ITA top-50 singles player and Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Player of the Year, Vinny Gillespie also enters his second season at Wake Forest after previously serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Drake.

Gillespie brings a wealth of coaching experience to Wake Forest as he spent the past several years coaching junior players, both in the United States and in the United Kingdom.

Along with being named MVC Player of the Year at Drake in 2017, Gillespie earned numerous awards during his playing career, including garnering conference player of the week accolades eight times. As a student-athlete, Gillespie achieved national rankings in singles (No. 48) and doubles (No. 23) during his career.
