WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released their 2024 Preseason All-America with Chase Burns, Josh Hartle, Seaver King, Nick Kurtz and Michael Massey all being named to the three teams by the publication.

Wake Forest led all schools with two players selected on the first team, one on the second team and two on the third team by the NCBWA.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit the association's official website  www.ncbwa.com. The preseason All-America squads are considered the first step toward the eventual selection of the 2020 Dick Howser Trophy presented by the Game Headwear and voted upon for 23 seasons by members of the NCBWA.

Burns, a repeat nominee, joins the second team in 2024 after making the 2023 preseason first team as an underclassman. The Hendersonville, Tenn. native joined the Demon Deacons ahead of the 2024 season from the University of Tennessee where he compiled a 13-5 record over the course of two seasons with the Volunteers. Burns was named the National Freshman of the Year following the 2022 season by the NCBWA, D1 Baseball and Collegiate Baseball.

Posting an 11-2 mark across 102.1 innings last year, Hartle earned his first preseason recognition from the NCBWA, having finished the 2023 season as a First Team award winner. As a sophomore, Hartle fanned the second-most batters in program history (140) which ranked fifth in the nation. The Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist will look to better his fourth-lowest ERA in the ACC (2.81) in 2024.

Transferring in from DII powerhouse Wingate, Seaver King received a Third Team Preseason All-American nod from the NCBWA, after being named their 2023 Summer Breakout Prospect Award Winner by D1 Baseball. King posted the third longest hit streak in NCAA DII history at 47 games while hitting .411 as a sophomore.

Following a 2023 campaign that saw Kurtz slash .353/.527/.784, the rising junior earned his first preseason recognition being named to the first team from the publication. He finished second in the ACC in home runs (24), walks (63), runs scored (76) and slugging percentage (.784) last season, while providing an elite glove at first base for the Deacs.

Working primarily as a reliever, Massey will transition to a starting role on the weekend for the Deacs this season. The Suwanee, Ga. native posted a career-best record of 3-1 with one save and 41.2 innings pitched to go along with a career-best 76 strikeouts. Over the course of 27 appearances, he had 16 scoreless outings with 21 multiple strikeout appearances in 2023 en route to being named to the third team.

The group and the rest of the Demon Deacons open the 2024 season on Friday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 18 when they take on Fordham, Illinois and Akron at David F. Couch Ballpark.
