CARLSBAD, Calif. - The Wake Forest women's golf team 2023-24 season came to an end Monday afternoon at the conclusion of stroke play at the NCAA Championship at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.
Despite having the second-best round of all teams on Monday, the Deacs could not make up enough strokes to crack the top eight. Wake missed the cut by just two strokes after having the team's best round of the week, shooting a two-over 290 in the final round of stroke play.
Wake Forest was led all week by senior Mimi Rhodes, who finished T10 and earned NCAA All-America honors. Three of Rhodes' four rounds were even or under par, highlighted by her final-round two-under score of 70, the lowest single-round score for any Deac all week. Rhodes finishes her Wake Forest career with eight top 10 finishes and a career-best scoring average of 71.48 for her final season. Rhodes has successfully graduated from Wake Forest, while missing the actual ceremony for the NCAA Championships, and earned her degree in Communications.
Graduate Rachel Kuehn finished two strokes behind Rhodes and T16. Her best round also came on the final day, as she shot a one-under 71 to close out the week at two over par. Kuehn finished her Illustrious Wake Forest career as one of the best players in program history. She earned eight individual titles in her five seasons, third-most in program history, and set the record for the lowest single-season scoring average her senior year with a 70.53 over 36 rounds that culminated in the 2023 NCAA National Championship team title.
She was also the first ever back-to-back ACC Player of the Year in program history, earning the honor in 2022 and 2023. While at Wake Forest, Kuehn has also represented the United States on the biggest stages, competing in a record-five Arnold Palmer Cups, two Curtis Cups and four Augusta National Women's Amateurs. She is a four-time All-ACC honoree, four time-All-American and was the 2023 ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year while also earning All-America Scholar honors three times. By the time 2025 begins, Kuehn will have earned both her bachelors (Business and Enterprise Management) and masters (Sports Media) degrees from Wake Forest.
Coach's Comments
"This team wanted to contend and worked all year for the opportunity. We didn't have our best stuff and came up a few shots short of match play. We are proud of our season, winning the ACC championship and Rachel winning the individual title. Macy Pate earned Freshman of the Year honors, and having four players on the All-ACC team is a testament to how hard they work. Mimi Rhodes finishing her career with the top 10 at the NCAA championship to be an NCAA all American was such a cherry on top of all her work over her four years. We are extremely proud of this team and are looking forward to what is next for us. Go Deacs!" - head coach Kim Lewellen
