Wake Forest Field Hockey Announces 2024 Roster Additions

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest field hockey and head coach Jen Averill have announced 10 new additions to the squad for the 2024 season.

"On behalf of our hockey program and athletic department, we are honored to welcome this academically and athletically talented group," head coach Jen Averill said. "We will have greater tenacity and depth within every line. We welcome the experience and leadership of our two graduate students in addition to a very talented group of first-year players who will make an immediate impact. All of these young women are driven by high performance motives, character and commitment to the process. We are eager to work beside each of them and help them discover their own greatness while adding significant value to the team."
 
The incoming group includes two graduate transfers in Anabelle Brodeur and Lotte Smorenburg and eight freshmen from across the globe. 
 
Anabelle Brodeur | Forward | Graduate Student | Columbia University | Essex Fells, N.J.
  • Played in all 16 games for the Lions in 2023 and started in all of them
  • Recorded three assists
  • Marked 16 Shots on Goal
  • Recorded a goal at James Madison on 9/1.
  • Played all 17 games and started 11 of them as a junior
  • Scored a goal against Brown on 10/8
  • Tallied two assists.
  • Played and started in all 17 games as a sophomore  
  • Recorded four goals
  • Led team with a goal in 2-1 win over Dartmouth
  • Recorded her third of the season against No. 14 Harvard
  • Posted assist at No. 16 Princeton
  • Led team with two shots on goal against Brown
  • Led team with three shots on goal against No. 3 Rutgers
  • Led team with one assist against No. 16 Princeton.
  • Third team NFHCA All-American as a HS senior
  • Picked up first team all-state and NFHCA All-Region honors in 2018 and 2019
  • Posted team-highs with 34 goals and 22 assists in 2018
  • Netted eight goals to lead squad in 2019 state tournament 
  • Won four county and conference championships 
  • Earned three non-public state titles from 2017-19 
  • Helped team earn a No. 1 state and national ranking in 2019
Lotte Smorenburg | Defender | Graduate Student | Lehigh | Rotterdam, The Netherlands
  • Started and played in all 17 games as a senior at Lehigh. 
  • Led the team in goals (5) and second in points (14)
  • Tallied the game-winning goal against Colgate (9/30
  • Scored two goals in the win over Sacred Heart (09/10) which led to earning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors (09/11)
  • Made 4 defensive saves throughout the season
  • Named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and NFHCA National Academic Squad
  • Started and played in all 21 games as a junior for the Mountain Hawks that won the Patriot League Championship
  • Scored three goals and recorded two assists for eight points
  • Tallied the game-winning goal and an assist in the Senior Day win over Colgate (10/29)
  •  Found the back of the cage in a shutout victory over Holy Cross (10/22)
  • Scored another game-winning goal in the win over Merrimack (9/24)
  • Made a defensive save in a thrilling overtime victory over Villanova (10/3)
  • Named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, NFHCA National Academic squad and NFHCA scholar of distinction
  • Tied for sixth on the Mountain Hawks with eight points via three goals and two assists as a sophomore
  • Three goals were tied for fifth on the team
  • Finished with eight shots, four on goal
  • Dished an assist in 2-1 win against Temple (10/10)
  • Scored a goal in back-to-back days at Merrimack (10/3) and Holy Cross (10/2)
