How It Happened
Fewest Points Allowed In Steve Forbes Era
Key Moment
"That's exactly how we wanted that game to go tonight. I thought we had a lot of confidence coming out of the Bahamas. We brought back a lot of confidence after the win over Memphis. We practiced like it, and I thought we played like it. We got off to a great start, made shots and defended well. I give Campbell a lot of credit. As a coach, I was concerned about this game because I watched them play Wisconsin and West Virginia. The West Virginia game was tight all the way to the end, and the Wisconsin game was close to the end a little bit before Wisconsin blew it open. They also beat a good [UT] Arlington team. They also went out and played Weber State really tough on the road. They're ninth in the country when it comes to getting to the line, and they've made more free throws than some other teams have attempted. There were definitely some things that I was concerned about. I thought we played really well. There's different levels of quad four games or quad three games, however you want to put it. Credit to coach. He's in his first year and won a National Championship last year. I think he's done a really good job with his team.
"Some things that are important to us. We had 1.55 points per possession. We got the ball in the paint and we either shot it or played out of it. That's important. We did a great job moving the ball. When the ball changed sides three times, we had between 1.31 points per possession and 1.39 points per possession. We played off two feet and had four assists off that. We were 4-of-6 from three on paint touch threes. I thought that was interesting. We had eight guys that scored and six guys that had assisted in the first half. I thought that was a really good number. Overall, we had 20 assists on 34 baskets. We shot free throws well. We shot the three as well. Mekhi [Mason] almost had a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Nate [Calmese] had seven assists and one turnover. Juke [Harris] totaled 17 points and six rebounds. We're all very please and happy for the win." - head coach Steve Forbes
