
Deacs Continue Home Swing Against Presbyterian Thursday

The Demon Deacons will look to improve to 2-0 on the season Thursday night as they play host to Presbyterian for a 6 p.m. tipoff at LJVM Coliseum.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After capturing a 71-64 win on Opening Night, the Wake Forest women's basketball team will look to continue its winning ways at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum Thursday night, playing host to Presbyterian for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
The Demon Deacons (1-0) were led by a trio of double-figure scoring efforts in the Opening Night win over the Highlanders including a team-high 16 points from junior guard/forward Mary Carter who knocked down four threes. Freshman guard Milan Brown ended her first collegiate game with 10 points and 12 rebounds, becoming the first Wake Forest freshman since at least 2000 to have a double-double in her debut. Fellow freshman Opal Bird also finished with 10 points of her own including converting six of the 20 Demon Deacon free throw makes on Monday.
On Monday night, the Blue Hose (1-0) defeated Division III Warren Wilson, 113-45, the program's most points since the Blue Hose put up 132 against Bluefield on Dec. 20, 2022. The 113 points are also the most the Blue Hose have scored in a season opener since PC became a Division I program in 2007. Allie Sykes led the Blue Hose in scoring, tallying 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor with five made threes. Three other Blue Hose scored in double figures: Aminata Tal (16), Aretha Linger (15), and Ja'Cia Cunningham (14).
Tipoff for Thursday is scheduled for 6 p.m. (ET) at LJVM Coliseum.

Assists On Made Baskets
On Opening Night, the Wake Forest women's basketball team totaled 12 assists on 22 made baskets (54.5 percent), with freshman guard Milan Brown and sophomore guard Aurora Sørbye leading the Deacs with three apiece.
The Deacs did an excellent job of moving the ball last season, as they assisted on 394 of 667 made baskets this season (59.1 pct.). This was the highest assist percentage in the Gebbia era and the assist percentage ranks in the top 70 percent in the nation according to HerHoopStats.
In 2023-24, the Deacs assisted 404 of 694 made field goals (58.2 percent).
Forcing Them Over
The Deacs forced the Highlanders into 12 turnovers on Monday, of which led to six points off turnovers in the game. The Deacs have forced 10 or more takeaways 68 times in the last 72 games. The 72-game stretch goes back to January of 2022.
Converting From The Line
The Demon Deacons converted 20 free throws, marking the most free throw makes in the Gebbia era and the most since making 21 against Florida State on Dec. 30, 2021.
The Deacs shot 11-of-12 from the line in the second half and a perfect 10-of-10 from the line in the fourth quarter.
The Demon Deacons shot at least 70 percent or from the line in 17 of the 29 games of the 2024-25 season, including doing so in six of the last seven games.
For the second-straight season, the Deacs had one of the top 10 free throw shooting percentages in program history, ranking sixth as they knocked down 294 of 414 shots from the stripe:

Wake Forest finished Opening Night with seven threes including four from junior guard/forward Mary Carter.
The Deacs finished the 2024-25 season knocking down 159 threes (5.5 3FGM per game). This included seven games with eight or more threes made.
Through the first three seasons under head coach Megan Gebbia, the Demon Deacons have hit 590 threes in 95 games under her direction (6.2 3FGM per game).

- The Demon Deacons were helped by the most free throw makes in the Megan Gebbia era, tallying 20 in the victory over Highlanders.
- Wake Forest finished the game with 48 rebounds, marking the second-highest total in the Meg Gebbia era. The only game with a higher total came against Longwood on Dec. 15, 2022 when the Deacs pulled down 50 rebounds.
- Making her debut in the Old Gold and Black, freshman guard Milan Brown opened her rookie campaign with 10 points and 12 rebounds. She was the first freshman Deac to achieve a double-double in the Gebbia era and the first known Wake Forest player to do so in this century (2000-present) in her rookie debut.
