Dear Demon Deacon Nation,
It's been an action-packed fall full of exciting Demon Deacon victories, and here in Winston-Salem we're getting ready for opening tip as Wake Forest faces Oklahoma at 7:00 p.m. in the ACC-SEC Challenge, live on ACC Network. And tomorrow at 11:30 a.m., our 9–0 women's basketball team hosts William & Mary in our annual School Kids Game, live on ACC Network Extra.
But I want to share my thoughts on the status and next steps for Demon Deacon Football in light of our announcement moments ago that Coach Jake Dickert and Wake Forest have strengthened our mutual commitment with a long-term contract to continue leading the Demon Deacons for many years to come.
I am deeply grateful for the leadership and support of President Susan R. Wente and our Board of Trustees for their unwavering commitment to Wake Forest Athletics as a key pillar of our University strategy. This unprecedented alignment gives us both the opportunity — and the responsibility — to continue elevating our athletics programs in the ACC and nationally.
From the night Coach Dickert arrived in Winston-Salem on December 18, 2024, he preached a standard of toughness, unity, and competitive excellence that has galvanized our locker room, energized our campus, and elevated the national perception of Wake Forest Football. Coach Dickert and his staff have restored our football momentum as the Demon Deacons have now earned eight wins — the fifth time in the last nine years we have reached that benchmark, placing Wake Forest among just four ACC programs (along with Clemson, Louisville, NC State) to achieve this feat at least five times in that span. In addition to victories over CFP Top-25 opponents SMU and Virginia, the Deacons defeated North Carolina at home and boast the best overall record among the six Power Four programs in the Carolinas this season.
You can read Coach Dickert's reflections on his family's love for Wake Forest and the bright future of our program in the accompanying press release.
This week will bring more excitement for Wake Forest Football, as tomorrow we will reap the rewards of Coach Dickert and his staff's recruiting focus with a high school signing class that promises to be one of our most highly rated — and largest — in years.
And then Sunday, we will learn our destination for our ninth postseason appearance in the last 10 years, a total that ranks tied for second in the ACC. I encourage all of Deacon Nation to review our potential options and indicate your preferences. Full bowl details, including fan events, hotels, and ticket options will be shared with the announcement. Bowl merchandise will be available soon at WakeForestShop.com.
This season has reminded us what makes Wake Forest so special: a unified community, a passionate fan base, and a football program built on discipline, authenticity, and heart. We have hosted electric crowds — including the sellout against North Carolina on Nov. 15 inside Allegacy Stadium — and we continue to rank among the national leaders in student attendance as a percentage of enrollment thanks to our remarkable Screamin' Demons.
From becoming the first Division I program in the South to integrate football in 1964, to the 1970 ACC Championship, the Tangerine Bowl, the 2006 ACC Championship and Orange Bowl, and our modern bowl streak (2016–22) under Coach Dave Clawson — including breakthrough national rankings and top-10 marks during the 2021 and 2022 seasons — Wake Forest Football has a proud legacy.
As we celebrate this milestone for Coach Dickert and our football program, it's time to rally as Deacon Nation and commit to leveraging — and enjoying — the success of Wake Forest Football together.
We are entering a new era with a nine-game ACC schedule, premium home matchups, and a team built on toughness, unity, and belief. This program is Built in the Dark — with the habits, hard work, and unwavering commitment to represent Wake Forest the right way. And our staff is doubling down on our commitment to offering the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina at Allegacy Stadium in 2026, even as we look forward to the opening of Phase I of The Grounds in 2027.
So with that, here's a Special Football-Focused Big 3:
Thank you for your loyal support and for continuing to propel Wake Forest forward.
Go Deacs!
