
Top-Seeded Demon Deacons Down Texas, Advance to Championship Match

Wake Forest will now await the winner of TCU/Stanford, with the final taking place tomorrow, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. eastern.
DALLAS – For the first time since winning the competition in 2018, the Wake Forest men's tennis team has advanced to the ITA National Indoor Championship match as it defeated SEC foe Texas, 4-3, Monday afternoon in Dallas, Texas.
Wake Forest will now take on the winner of (1) TCU and (6) Stanford on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The match will be streamed on the ITA YouTube channel with live results available here.
The Demon Deacons are one of six ACC schools to have previously won the ITA National Indoor Team Championship, as Bresky's men took the crown in 2018 with the likes of Borna Gojo, Petros Chrysochos and Skander Mansouri leading the charge. Tomorrow, Wake Forest will look to become the 13th team in the competition's history to win multiple titles.
The Demon Deacons (13-0, 0-0 ACC) are now 13-0 for the first time since the National Championship run in 2018 (14-0). Wake Forest is also a combined 46-13 in singles and 26-4 in doubles so far this campaign, taking all 13 doubles points. Coming into the match, the Longhorns (9-2, 0-0 SEC) had only dropped two doubles points all season.
In doubles, the dominant duo of graduate student Stefan Dostanic and junior DK Suresh Ekambaram earned a quick, 6-3 victory on court one over No. 5 Brown/Legout. The pair improved to 6-1 on the year with three ranked wins. The graduate student team of Franco Capalbo and Ioannis Xilas clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Texas' Braswell/Ojakaar in third doubles
After Texas took a 2-1 lead with wins on one and five, sophomore Luca Pow earned his team-best ninth singles win of the season and evened the match score as he defeated Sebastian Eriksson (6-2, 7-5) on court six.
Despite dropping the first set, Suresh caught fire and picked up one of the biggest wins of his young career on court two. He defeated the No. 10 player in the country in Sebastian Gorzny in comeback fashion (3-6, 6-3, 7-6[4]) after a thrilling third-set tiebreak. It marked his third win over a ranked opponent this season and fifth win overall.
With a trip to the championship on the line, Xilas remained calm in his third set with the match tied at 3-3 and defeated No. 21 Jonah Braswell (6-3, 6[7]-7, 6-3) in fourth singles. The win marked the highest-ranked win of his career and seventh of the season.
Wake Forest is now 4-10 all-time against Texas and has won four of the last seven meetings.

- On court one, Suresh and Dostanic broke the Longhorns out of the gate and didn't look back, as the pair defeated No. 5 Brown/Legout, 6-3.
- The Demon Deacons claimed the doubles point after a 6-4 win on court three from Capalbo and Xilas.
- Pow came out firing on court six and was the first Demon Deacon to take a set, 6-2.
- Texas took the first set on courts two and five.
- Xilas was the second Wake Forest player to go up a set with a 6-3 performance on court four.
