Wake Forest is back in action at home on Friday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. against St. John’s.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wake Forest baseball team fell 4-0 to UNC Greensboro on Tuesday night in the first midweek contest of the 2025 season at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
Left fielder Chris Katz recorded the Deacs' first hit of the night, roping a 111-mph single into center field in the fifth.
Freshman Dalton Wentz collected his sixth hit of the young season with a single back up the middle in the eighth.
As a pitching staff, the Demon Deacons recorded 17 strikeouts, marking the fourth time in five games that Wake Forest has struck out 10 or more.
Senior Will Ray was a bright spot on the mound for the Demon Deacons, striking out three over 1.2 one-hit innings, while fellow reliever Zach Johnston struck out a pair in the seventh.
Sophomore Josh Gunther struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth for his second-straight scoreless outing to open the 2025 campaign.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FROM COACH WALTER
"Obviously, it's a disappointing effort. Give credit to UNCG, their two pitchers did a really good job on us, two really talented guys. They stuffed it on us pretty good tonight. Ten free-nineties by my count. We didn't get enough outs afterward. We had some early errors that cost us some runs, an error that cost us a run later and a wild pitch. We have to have a better offensive approach. There's no way around that. We had too many strikeouts, too many groundouts. Striking out 14 times tonight is just unacceptable. We have to bounce back and be ready to go on Friday." - head coach Tom Walter
