
Wake Forest Continues Conference Play With Pair of Top-30 Matchups

The Demon Deacons open the weekend against No. 25 Georgia Tech on Friday before facing No. 30 Clemson on Sunday.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After facing off against two top-10 opponents last weekend, the No. 40 Wake Forest women's tennis team returns home to Leighton Courts to take on a pair of top-30 opponents in No. 25 Georgia Tech and No. 30 Clemson.
The Demon Deacons (12-7, 2-4 ACC) open the weekend against the Yellow Jackets (10-7, 4-3 ACC) on Friday, with first serve slated for 4 p.m. The Deacs will then take on the Tigers (13-6, 3-4 ACC) on Sunday at noon.
Both matches are free for all spectators and will be live streamed via Playsight. Live results will also be updated throughout the weekend here.
Fan Giveaways
Head coach Jeff Wyshner and the women's tennis team will be having multiple fan giveaways throughout the weekend.
The first 25 students and the 25 general spectators will receive a women's tennis sweatshirt on Friday against Georgia Tech. Ten students will also have the chance to win a free pickle paddle.
On Sunday, the first 25 students and 25 general spectators will receive a Wake Forest tennis bucket hat.
Parking Update
Free parking for Leighton Courts is available at the Indoor Tennis Center, as well as additional overflow parking in the Gold Lot. Due to ongoing construction of The Grounds, both Piccolo Drive and Deacon Boulevard will be closed until further notice. Fans will need to enter the Indoor Tennis Center parking lot from Reynolds and/or 32nd Street off Shorefair Drive.

The Demon Deacons are coming off a pair of top-10 matches against No. 4 North Carolina and No. 7 Duke.
In the opening match of the weekend, the Deacs fell to the Tar Heels, 4-0. Freshman Kady Tannenbaum came the closest to earning a win for Wake Forest, as she was only one game away from defeating No. 43 Carson Tanguilig for her first ranked-win of her collegiate career (6-1, 6-5).
The Demon Deacons closed out the weekend with a 4-0 loss to the Blue Devils in Durham. Graduate students Anna Zhang and Makayla Mills picked up the only sets for the Deacs, with both matches ending in a deadlock in the third set.
Zhang took the first set against Liv Hovde as the match went unfinished at 7-6, 6-7, 1-1. Meanwhile, Mills, who was competing in just her second singles match of the season, fought back to force a third set against Katie Codd (1-6, 6-4, 1-1).
Doubles Dominance
The Demon Deacons have remained steady in doubles matches this season, as they have gone 30-11 in doubles play.
Zhang and junior Whitley Pate lead the team with an undefeated 11-0 record. Zhang has also picked up a win alongside junior Jingyi Li. Meanwhile, Carton and Tannenbaum also have 11 wins as a duo on the year. Mills and redshirt sophomore Krystal Blanch currently hold a 6-3 record this season while holding down the No. 1 doubles spot.
Singles Success
Wake Forest has been solid in singles play this season, currently holding a 59-32 record in dual match action following the weekend.
Three Deacs have eclipsed the 10-win mark this season, with Carton leading the way with a 10-3 record while primarily playing at the first singles position. Joining Carton with 10 wins on the year is sophomore Sankavi Gownder and freshman Brianna Baldi, who both sit at 10-5. Pate and Tannenbaum are right behind the trio with nine wins on the season. Blanch still sits at 6-4 at the second singles position while Zhang is now 3-3 at third singles. Rounding out the Demon Deacon lineup is Li, who is 2-1 on the season, with both of her wins coming against non-conference opponents.

The Demon Deacons are ranked No. 40 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, as announced by the league this past Tuesday. The Deacs hold a 12-7 record and are one of 10 Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked inside the top-50.
Wake Forest also features two doubles teams and two singles players in the ITA rankings. Following her impressive weekend against Virginia and Virginia Tech, Carton shot up to No. 53, while Blanch moved to No. 116. In doubles, Carton and Tannenbaum returned to the rankings at No. 64 as Blanch and Mills joined them at No. 86.

Closing In on Win No. 200
After becoming the all-time winningest head coach in women's tennis program history earlier this season, head coach Jeff Wyshner is nearing another milestone as he sits one game away from eclipsing the 200-win mark as the head coach of the Demon Deacons.
Under Wyshner's leadership, the Demon Deacons have amassed a 199-186 overall record and have made eight-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Wyshner has also helped produce three All-Americans during his 15-year tenure, including Singles All-American Carolyn Campana (2021), and Doubles All-Americans MC Meredith and Eliza Omiru (2020) and Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth (2022).
Scouting the Opposition
Georgia Tech comes into Winston-Salem ranked at No. 25 by the ITA after starting the season 10-7. The Yellow Jackets are currently on a three-match win streak, including victories over Syracuse and Boston College over the weekend.
Georgia Tech has two players ranked in the latest ITA singles poll. Leading the way is sophomore Scarlett Nicholson, who is ranked at No. 83 while holding a 10-4 record in dual matches this season. Sitting just behind her is No. 97 Alejandra Cruz with a team-best 11-2 record. The junior is also ranked at No. 62 in doubles alongside sophomore Given Roach.
Clemson comes into the weekend with a 13-6 record after winning their matches against Syracuse and Boston College this weekend. Following those results, the Tigers moved up to No. 30 in the latest ITA rankings.
Clemson has two doubles teams ranked inside the top-100 by the ITA, with junior Romana Cisovska and freshman Candela Yecora coming in at No. 43 while the freshman duo of Amelie Smejkalova and Gaia Parravicini sitting at No. 80. Graduate student Sophia Hatton is the lone Tiger in the ITA singles rankings as she is currently ranked No. 124.
