The Deacs will look to even the series tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 16 Wake Forest baseball team fell to Virginia Tech, 13-2, in eight innings on Friday night at David F. Couch Ballpark.

Sophomore Kade Lewis extended his hit streak to 16 games with an RBI single in the bottom of the first and roped a two-out double to left center in the seventh.

Center fielder Javar Williams hit safely for the 14th-straight contest with a single through the left side in the bottom of the fifth.

Designated hitter Dalton Wentz put together his 12th multi-hit effort of the year with a pair of singles in the series opener.

Left fielder Antonio Morales notched a pair of singles to right field for his fourth multi-hit game of the season and first since his three-hit outing in the ACC opener against Notre Dame on March 7.

Freshman Rhys Bowie helped preserve the Wake (20-7, 7-3 ACC) bullpen with 2.0 no-hit innings of relief for his longest outing as a Demon Deacon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Virginia Tech scored nine runs in the top of the first.
  • The Demon Deacons got a run back in the bottom half, as sophomore Kade Lewis extended his hit streak to 16 games with an RBI single.
  • The Hokies added a run in the third.
  • Freshman Rhys Bowie didn't allow a hit over 2.0 innings of relief.
  • Lewis's second RBI of the day trimmed the deficit in the bottom of the fifth.
  • A solo home run from Virginia Tech pushed the lead back to nine in the sixth
  • Righty Troy Dressler worked a three-up, three-down top of the seventh.
  • Virginia Tech added a pair in the eighth to win, 13-2.

FROM COACH WALTER
"I've been racking my brain trying to remember a worse Friday night performance than that from a team. It's not on one guy, but as a team, it's just very disappointing. Offensively, we had some chances to get back in it. We just couldn't get the big hit when we had traffic and opportunities. I was really happy with how [Dylan] Zucker, [Rhys] Bowie and [Troy] Dressler threw the baseball. I was pleased with those three guys and their effort to keep it reasonable. I think we had 13 or 14 walks on the day and that's just not good enough. We know that and we have to have a short memory and play a better baseball game." - Head Coach Tom Walter
