WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After facing three-consecutive teams ranked inside the top-25, the Wake Forest women's tennis team returned to winning ways as they defeated No. 30 Clemson on Sunday afternoon on Leighton Courts, 4-1.
The Demon Deacons (13-8, 3-5 ACC) got out to an early lead as they swept the doubles match to improve to 33-13 in doubles action this season. Graduate student Makayla Mills and redshirt sophomore Krystal Blanch gave the Demon Deacons the advantage with a comfortable 6-1 victory over No. 80 Parravicini/Smejkalova at first doubles.
Wake Forest secured the doubles point after a 6-4 victory by graduate student Anna Zhang and junior Whitley Pate over Davis/Hatton at third doubles. With the win, Zhang and Pate continued their undefeated start to the season as they improved to 13-0 as a duo.
After Clemson (13-8, 3-6 ACC) evened the match with a victory at sixth singles, the Demon Deacons rattled off three-consecutive victories to seal the team's first win since defeating Virginia Tech.
Junior Nevena Carton got the Demon Deacons rolling in singles play with a comfortable win over Amelie Smejkalova at first singles (6-3, 6-0). The Locust, N.J., native now leads the Demon Deacons with 11 wins on the season, including a 10-4 record at the first singles position.
Freshman Kady Tannenbaum put the Demon Deacons one win away from the victory, defeating Artemis Aslanisvili at fourth singles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Pate clinched the match for Wake Forest moments later with a three-set victory over Romana Cisovska at fifth singles (6-3, 2-6, 6-3). Following their results on Sunday, both Pate and Tannenbaum eclipsed the 10-win mark for the season, becoming the fourth and fifth Deacs to do so this season.
With the victory over Clemson, head coach Jeff Wyshner earned his 200th-career victory at Wake Forest, Wyshner, who is currently in his 15th season in charge of the Deacs, became the all-time winningest head coach in program history earlier this season.
The win also marked Wake Forest's first win of the season over a top-30 team and is the highest ranked-win since the Demon Deacons defeated No. 26 Notre Dame last season.

From Coach Wyshner
"What an outstanding team effort today! We really seemed to find our energy and enthusiasm again in doubles. Makayla [Mills] and Krystal [Blanch] were amazing today. They beat a team that just defeated the second-ranked team in the country on Friday, 6-1. It was a really good and much needed doubles point. Our singles start showed how comitted the players were to today's match. Credit to Clemson. I knew those first sets that we won at second, fourth, and fifth singles would be hard to close out and all three went to third sets. Nevena [Carton] gave us the momentum with an efficient performance at first singles, and then Kady [Tannenbaum] and Whitley [Pate] shut the door in the third sets. Really big win for us as we head into April." - head coach Jeff Wyshner
