Demon Deacons Travel to Charlotte for Final Non-Conference Clash

Wednesday’s match against the 49ers is a rescheduled match from March 10th.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After splitting their matches on Leighton Courts this past weekend, the No. 36 Wake Forest women's tennis team heads back on the road for its final non-conference match against No. 40 Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
The match between the Demon Deacons (13-8, 3-5 ACC) and the 49ers (16-3, 2-1 American) was originally scheduled for March 10th before it was postponed due to inclement weather.
All matches on Wednesday will be streamed live via Track Tennis, while live scores will be updated throughout the afternoon here.

Versus Charlotte
Last Time Out
The Deacs split their matches against top-30 competition this past weekend on Leighton Courts, falling to No. 25 Georgia Tech on Friday before defeating No. 30 Clemson on Sunday afternoon, 4-1.
Graduate student Anna Zhang and junior Whitley Pate picked up the only win of the afternoon for the Demon Deacons against Georgia Tech, defeating Licht/Jesudason, 6-2.
Zhang and Pate added another doubles win on Sunday as they came away with a 6-4 win over Davis/Hatton to clinch the doubles point against Clemson. Graduate student Makayla Mills and redshirt sophomore Krystal Blanch opened the doubles match for the Deacs with a dominant win over No. 80 Parravicini/Smejkalova (6-1).
In singles action, junior Nevena Carton picked up a comfortable, straight-set win over Amelie Smejkalova at first singles (6-3, 6-0) before freshman Kady Tannenbaum put the Demon Deacons one win away from securing the match with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, victory over Artemis Aslanisvili at fourth singles.
Pate, who was competing in her first singles match since March 2nd against Louisville, clinched the match for Wake Forest with a three-set win against Romana Cisovska at fifth singles (6-3, 2-6, 6-3).
Doubles Dominance
The Demon Deacons have remained steady in doubles matches this season, as they have gone 33-13 in doubles play.
Zhang and Pate continued their excellent season with a pair of victories over the weekend to extend their undefeated streak to 13-0. Meanwhile, Blanch and Mills moved up to 7-4 on the season following their win on Sunday. Carton and Tannenbaum round out the doubles lineup for the Deacs, as the pair hold an 11-4 record as a duo.
Singles Success
Wake Forest has been solid in singles play this season, currently holding a 62-36 record in dual match action.
Five Deacs have eclipsed the 10-win mark this season, with Carton leading the way with an 11-4 record while primarily playing at the first singles position. Both Pate and Tannenbaum secured their 10th win this year after Sunday, with Tannenbaum sitting at 10-6 in her debut season, while Pate improved to 10-3. Sophomore Sankavi Gownder and freshman Brianna Baldi also have double-digit victories in dual match play. Meanwhile, Blanch sits at 6-5 at the second singles position while Zhang remains at 3-3 at third singles following the weekend.

The Demon Deacons are ranked No. 36 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, as announced by the league this past Tuesday. The Deacs hold a 13-8 record and are one of 10 Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked inside the top-50.
Carton is the only Demon Deacon ranked in the latest ITA singles poll, as the Locust, N.J., native currently sits at No. 62. The junior is also ranked in doubles alongside Tannenbaum, with the duo being ranked at No. 78.

Another Record in the History Books
Following Sunday's victory over Clemson, head coach Jeff Wyshner added another accolade to his incredible coaching career as he became the first coach in Wake Forest women's tennis program history to eclipse the 200-win mark at Wake Forest. Wyshner, who is currently in his 15th season with the Demon Deacons, became the all-time winningest head coach in program history earlier this season.
Under Wyshner's leadership, the Demon Deacons have amassed a 200-187 overall record and have made eight-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Wyshner has also helped produce three All-Americans during his 15-year tenure, including Singles All-American Carolyn Campana (2021), and Doubles All-Americans MC Meredith and Eliza Omiru (2020) and Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth (2022).
Scouting the Opposition
Charlotte comes into the weekend on a four-match win streak, including a 4-1 victory over No. 36 Furman this past Friday. The 49ers currently sit at 16-3 and No. 40 in the country in the latest ITA poll.
The 49ers have four players with double-digit victories in dual match action, with junior Lucia Aranda leading the way with a 13-2 record. Freshman Ni Xi sits just behind Aranda with a 12-2 record, while both graduate student Amira Badawi and sophomore Sara Suchankova have 10 wins each.
In doubles action, Xi and redshirt Shona Nakona lead the 49ers at 13-2 on the season, while Badawi and Suchankova sit at 11-4 at the first doubles spot.

Another Record in the History Books
