Junior Jack Winnay went 2-for-2 with a triple.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Wake Forest baseball team fell, 11-1, in seven innings to No. 16 North Carolina in the series opener on Friday night at Boshamer Stadium.
Sophomore Kade Lewis extended his hit streak to five-straight games with a single in the top of the third inning and has now hit safely in 23 of the last 24 games for the Demon Deacons (24-11, 9-7 ACC).
First baseman Jack Winnay collected his 12th multi-hit game with an infield single in the third inning and came around to score the lone run against the Tar Heels (26-8, 9-7 ACC) on a leadoff triple to open the sixth inning.
Catcher Jimmy Keenan and sophomore Cam Nelson both collected hits with a single through the left side.
HOW IT HAPPENED
"We've got to pitch better. [Jake] Knapp was good tonight. We had chances, and the first inning was a big momentum shift. We certainly had a chance to get to Knapp. We got 37 pitches on him in the first, and if we have a couple of better at-bats there, we probably punch a couple across and maybe get him to 45 or 50 pitches. With the bases loaded there, we didn't have two great at-bats. [We had] two bad at-bats in a row. They came out the next inning and put up a four spot and really took the momentum. They were aggressive early on [Chris] Levonas, swinging at a lot of first pitches and we just threw too many get-me-over pitches in those situations. We've got to make better pitches in those 0-0 counts. [Levonas] will bounce back and be really good for us next Thursday against Boston College. We've got our two best guys going the rest of the series and a rested bullpen, so we'll be ready." - Head Coach Tom Walter
