Demon Deacons Drop Regular Season Finale Against No. 18 California

The Deacs honored graduate students Anna Zhang and Makayla Mills as part of Senior and Graduates Day prior to the match against the Golden Bears.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In their final match of the regular season, the No. 34 Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match against No. 18 California, 4-1, at Leighton Courts on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (12-7, 9-3 ACC) claimed the doubles point following wins at courts one and three. Graduate student Anna Zhang and junior Whitley Pate were one point away from coming away with a victory at second doubles, but saw their match against Passola Folch/Wiersholm go unfinished.
In singles play, graduate student Anna Zhang picked up the lone win for the Demon Deacons (14-12, 3-9 ACC), as she cruised to a win over No. 38 Jessica Alsola at second singles, 6-3, 6-0, tying the match for the Deacs. The McKinney, Texas, native wrapped up the regular season with four singles victories, with Sunday's victory marking her first win over a ranked-opponent this season.
Prior to the match, Wake Forest honored both Zhang and fellow graduate student Makayla Mills as part of the annual Senior and Graduate Day celebrations.
ACC Championships
After earning the No. 14 seed in the 2025 ACC Championships, the Demon Deacons will open postseason play against No. 11 seed SMU on Wednesday, April 16 at 12:30 p.m. All matches throughout the tournament will take place at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. and will run from Tuesday, April 15 to Sunday, April 20.
The winner of the match between the Demon Deacons and the Hurricanes will go on to face No. 6 seed Notre Dame on Thursday at 10 a.m.
Single day tickets are priced at $15 for adults, and $10 for youth ages 17 and under and non-ACC college students. Admission is free for children ages nine and under. ACC college students get in free with a valid school ID. A full championship pass for all five days of the tournament is priced at $30. All seating for the tournament is General Admission.

- Zhang and Pate raced out to an early 3-1 lead on court two to open up doubles play for the Deacs.
- California took the lead in the doubles match following a win on court one.
- The Golden Bears secured the point moments later with a win at third doubles.
- Zhang/Pate were leading, 5-3, when the doubles point was clinched.
- Cal took the first set on courts one, four, five, and six.
- Zhang gave the Deacs their first set of the match, taking the set on court two, 6-3.
- The Golden Bears wrapped up the first set with a win on court three.
- Pate stormed out to a 3-1 lead in the second set at third singles.
- Zhang swept the second set at second singles to secure a straight-set victory over No. 38 Jessica Alsola (6-3, 6-0) to tie the match at 1-1.
- California rattled off three-straight victories as the Demon Deacons fell 4-1.
