Wake Forest Set to Conclude Regular-Season Play at Virginia and Virginia Tech

This will be the Demon Deacons’ final road trip before postseason play.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest women's tennis will conclude the regular season with a pair of road matches this weekend. The Demon Deacons will face the ACC leaders, No. 8 Virginia (17-4, 10-0 ACC) on Friday, April 10, before wrapping up the regular season in Blacksburg against Virginia Tech (4-14, 1-9 ACC) on Sunday. The Deacs are coming off one of their best performances of the season, as they swept Louisville, 4-0, in their final home match last Sunday.
Winners of three of their last five, the Demon Deacons will look to continue their positive play on the road. Historically, the Deacs have had great success against both Virginia and Virginia Tech, leading the all-time series against both programs. They closed out their home matches on a positive note, recording their first ACC sweep of the season against Louisville. Nevena Carton and Kady Tannenbaum starred, winning first doubles before both picking up singles wins. Evie Oxford was the third singles winner as she improved to 16-2 (.889) in singles on the season. The Deacs finished with a strong 10-5 record in Winston-Salem on the year.
The Deacs' ACC Championships seed will be determined this weekend. At 3-7 in the league, the Demon Deacons are currently in 12th place in the standings, but could rise up to tenth and fall down to 15th depending on this weekend's results. The tournament begins Tuesday, April 14, in Cary, N.C.
Senior Star
Carton is Wake Forest's lone senior on the squad, and she has played her best tennis of the season lately. Carton has won four of her last five singles matches (two ranked wins) and five straight doubles matches (three ranked wins) with partner Kady Tannenbaum.
Evie Chases 20
Freshman Evie Oxford has a chance to earn her 20th collegiate win this weekend. She is 19-5 since the fall, and an even more impressive 16-2 in dual matches. Oxford has worked her way up to starring in third singles for the Deacs, where she's won three consecutive matches in straight sets.

Wake Forest celebrated its home finale with a dominant 4-0 win over Louisville on Sunday, April 5.
Wake Forest gained an early advantage after one of its strongest doubles performances of the season. Carton and Tannenbaum jumped out to a 5-0 lead and proceeded to earn the first doubles win of the day on court one. Krystal Blanch and Aubrey Nisbet secured the opening point for the Deacs with a 6-1 win over Alice Otis and Lucia Gallegos.
Tannenbaum followed up her strong doubles performance with a win in sixth singles. She defeated Rebekkah Gaines, 6-1, 6-2, to put the Old Gold & Black up 2-0. Oxford then defeated Elena Noguero in straight sets to put the Deacs up 3-0. The freshman continues her terrific 2026 campaign with her team-leading 16th singles win of the season.
It was the senior, Carton, who clinched the win. She defeated Alice Otis 6-2, 6-2, in first singles to secure the victory for the Demon Deacons. Carton improved to 9-7 on the season in singles play with the win.
