Wake Forest Field Hockey Faces VCU and UMass Lowell this Weekend

The Demon Deacons scored seven goals against Longwood, marking the most in a match since 2017.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Coming off a pair of wins last week, where the Demon Deacons outshot their opponents by a 59 to 7 margin, the Wake Forest field hockey team will look to build off a strong offensive showing.

The Deacs will take on VCU on Friday, September 12, at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by a Sunday showdown with UMass Lowell at 12 p.m. ET on ACC Network Extra.

Opponent History
Wake Forest is 12-7-1 all-time against VCU and have won 12 of the last 14 against the Rams. 
 
The Demon Deacons and UMass Lowell met for the first time a season ago, with the River Hawks taking a 1-0 victory at home.

Wake Forest Highlights
  • Entering week three of the season, Wake Forest leads the ACC in shots with 81. 
    • The Demon Deacons are tied for third in the ACC in penalty corners, having generated 27 chances. 
  • Wake's seven goals against Longwood last Sunday marked the most goals in a match since the Demon Deacons scored eight against App State during the 2017 season. 
  • The Demon Deacons scored four goals in the first match of the year, marking the most in a season opener since Wake Forest scored six against Iowa to open the 2006 season.
  • Junior Mia Schoenbeck is tied for second in the conference with five goals through the first four matches, she added a pair of braces in Wake's two matches last week, including the golden goal in double overtime at Davidson. 
  • Scoring just one goal during her freshman season, back Mia Montag had a brace in the opener against the Hawkeyes. 
    • She ranks 12th overall in points in the ACC with eight, adding four assists to go along with the two goals.
      • Her four assists rank tied for fourth in the ACC. 
  • Sophomore Lauren Storey netted a hat trick against Longwood, tying the second most goals by an ACC player so far this season.
