
No. 18 Wake Forest Wraps Non-Conference Slate at Home

Sunday marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Following its first conference win of the 2025 season, the No. 17 Wake Forest women's soccer team (6-1-1, 1-0-0 ACC) will wrap non-conference play this Sunday, Sept. 14, against the USC Upstate Spartans (3-3-1, 0-0-0, Big South) at Spry Stadium.
The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on ACCNX with live stats available here.

Adult season tickets start as low as $70 for general admission and $50 for youth while reserved chairbacks are $130 for fans and $110 for Wake Forest University faculty and staff.
Fans can catch all of Demon Deacon home action this fall as well by purchasing combo season tickets to see both men's and women's soccer starting as low as $90 for general admission and $180 for reserved chairbacks for fans and $150 for Wake Forest University faculty and staff.

Last Time Out
- The No. 18 Wake Forest women's soccer team earned its first ACC victory of the season, defeating the Miami Hurricanes on Wednesday night at Spry Stadium, 3-1.
- The Demon Deacons struck early, with two goals in five minutes – both from sophomore Lola Ressler.
- Ressler notched the first goal just under two minutes into the match, with an assist from redshirt sophomore Sierra Sythe. The early strike is the fourth-fastest goal scored in program history.
- Her second goal came at the 5th minute mark, with freshman Kylie Maxwell and senior Brooke Miller recording assists. The strike came just three minutes and 45 seconds later, which marks the second-quickest brace in program history.
- Freshman Kylie Maxwell had a breakaway opportunity in the 18th to extend the Demon Deacons' lead, but sent the shot wide.
- In the 32nd minute, redshirt sophomore Valentina Amaral grabbed her first save of the match to keep Miami scoreless.
- Through the first half, Wake Forest maintained 59 percent possession and outshot the Hurricanes 9-7.
- The Canes pressured the Deacs in the early stages of the second half with a shot in the 52nd minute, but Amaral was there to make the save.
- Miami found the back of the net in the 63rd minute; however, the goal was ruled offside.
- Freshman Allie Flanagan extended the Deacons' lead in the 67th minute. Miller set the ball opposite the field for Flanagan to tap the strike in.
- The Hurricanes found an answer in the 73rd minute; however, Wake Forest held a two-goal lead over the Canes.
- Despite pressure from the Hurricanes, the Demon Deacons held onto the 3-1 win.
- Ressler recorded her first multi-goal game of her career during the contest.
- Johnson also recorded her first assist of the season.
- This is the first ACC opener win for the Deacs since defeating NC State in 2018. Wake Forest also improved their record against Miami to 16-3-0 overall, including a perfect 12-0-0 home record against the Canes.
- The Demon Deacons currently rank 18th on the United Soccer Coaches Poll and 25th on TopDrawerSoccer.
- Through eight games of the season, the Deacs are fourth in the conference with just four goals allowed following efforts from redshirt sophomore Valentina Amaral.
- Amaral currently leads the ACC in shutouts per game and is one of eight other keepers in the NCAA to have recorded five or more shutouts so far this season.
- Wake Forest wrapped the 2024 year with a 16-4-1 record, highlighted by a 9-1-1 home record at Spry Stadium.
- Spry has almost guaranteed results for the Demon Deacons over the last three seasons, as Wake Forest has posted a stellar 22-3-7 record at home since the start of 2022.
- Wake Forest finished the 2024 season with a 9-1-1 mark at Spry.
- Before the loss to Duke late last season, the Demon Deacons held the program record for longest home unbeaten streak at 15 matches.
- During the 15-game run, eight resulted in a clean sheet for the Deacs as they outscored opponents 35-8.
- It marked the second-longest active home unbeaten run in the ACC, behind only Florida State's 25.
- Since the 2021 season, the Deacs are 18-0-3 at home against non-conference opponents in the regular season.
- USC Upstate enters the match unbeaten in its last three outings and holds a 3-3-1 record over the first month of the season.
- The Spartans were picked to finish first in the Big South preseason poll with five first-place votes.
- Senior forward Dara Russo has led the Spartans in goals in each of the last three seasons, including a stellar 15-goal campaign in 2023.
- She has continued her goal-scoring ways into 2025, as she has tallied four goals in her last five matches and is the only Spartan with multiple goals so far this season.
- Her previous accolades saw her named Big South Preseason Forward of the Year.
- Russo holds career program records in goals (34) and points (77).
- In addition to Russo, senior defender Catarina Dantas also earned preseason honors as she was tabbed Big South Preseason Defender of the Year.
- Dantas has made 60 career appearances with 57 starts going into Sunday, with four assists and a goal to her name.
- In goal, the Spartans have started three separate keepers already this season with sophomore Madison Ejgird getting the nod in the last two.
- Ejgird recorded a clean sheet last time out against VMI with a pair of saves in the 2-0 victory.
- This will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
- Of note, USC Upstate is the second of three South Carolina-based opponents for the Demon Deacons this season following its 2-0 road win at Charleston (Sept. 4).
- Wake Forest also has an upcoming match at Clemson on Oct. 16.
