The Demon Deacons will look to stay unbeaten at home
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest (3-3) returns home to take on Memphis (0-4) for the first time in program history. The Demon Deacons have not lost a home match all year, and will look to keep that streak going against the winless Tigers on Thursday, February 12, at 5 p.m. Memphis is coming off an 0-2 weekend, losing to BYU on Saturday and Arkansas State on Sunday.
Wake Forest has been perfect at home this season, boasting a 3-0 record in Winston-Salem. Last time the Deacs hosted, they won both legs of a doubleheader, defeating Marshall (4-3) and UNC Greensboro (7-0) in back-to-back matches. The blanking of UNC Greensboro was the Deacs' first and only sweep of the season so far.
In their last match, the Demon Deacons fell, 5-2, to Old Dominion on Saturday, February 7. Nevena Carton and Evie Oxford both battled their way to singles wins late in the match to pick up points for the team.
Chasing 100
Senior Nevena Carton is closing in on 100 career wins. After picking another up Saturday, she sits at 97 wins and holds a career .539 overall record (51-48 singles, 46-35 doubles).
Top-10 Class
Wake Forest has officially landed a top-10 recruiting class, coming in at No. 9 nationally according to Tennis Recruiting Network. The Deacs' class ranked third in the ACC and is one of only six classes nationwide to feature multiple blue-chip prospects. Catherine Rennard (No. 18), Lillian Santos (No. 25) and Bella Jacutin-Mariona (No. 57) are the three newcomers who make up the third-best class in school history.
Freshman Singles Star
Freshman Evie Oxford has been one of the Deacs' top performers in her rookie year. At 4-1 in singles, Oxford is tied with Sankavi Gownder for the most wins and best winning percentage (.800) on the team. Oxford came to Winston-Salem as one of the highest-ranked recruits (No. 8 nationally) in program history.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest dropped its third match of the season to Old Dominion. ODU got out to a 5-0 lead after securing the doubles point and the first four singles matches before Oxford and Carton picked up late wins.
Series History
This will be the first-ever meeting between Wake Forest and Memphis.
Next Up
The Deacs get to host their next five matches at home before starting ACC play. After the Memphis match, they will host Liberty on Saturday, Feb. 14. Next weekend, Wake Forest hosts Charlotte, William & Mary and Appalachian State on consecutive days.
