Coach's Comments
"I thought that Earl [Grant's] team did a great job responding in the second half. We held them to 22 points in the first half and were up seven. They went at us in the post and caused us to foul. Then, they got easy baskets, got into the lane and got some confidence going. I just thought they were really physical defensively. They are a really good defensive team – I don't think that's pretty common knowledge. So all the credit to them, and they made the play when they needed to make the play.
"On the last play, we switched one through five just to keep them in front and make them shoot a two. But their guard turned the corner on our guy, and then we came across to challenge it and made him miss – our one guy checked down on [Boden] Kapke, got him out of there, but the wings didn't come in there. And [Aiden Shaw] flew in there and tipped it in. So, they made the play.
"I'm disappointed that our defense gave up 46 points in the second half. I think they scored 22 points in the first nine minutes. That's what they scored the whole first half. We had four kills in the first half, which is three stops in a row. Usually, if you get seven or eight, you win a game pretty much every time. We had zero in the second half. Offensively, we were 7-for-19 at the rim. We just can't win that way.
"It's too bad because we had a guy have a great night. Juke [Harris] is one of the best players in this league and one of the best sophomores in the United States. He had 38 points on only 19 shots. He willed us. We didn't really have anybody else show up on offense, except at the end there – Isaac Carr made a couple of big plays as a freshman. But all in all, it's a disappointing loss for us to have given up that many points to them in the second half."- head coach Steve Forbes
