Wake Forest will return home for a pair of matches next week.
BERKELEY, Calif. – Wake Forest (7-6, 0-2 ACC) dropped the second leg of its two-match road trip to No. 7 Cal (5-1, 3-1 ACC) on Saturday afternoon. Despite a strong start in doubles and another Evie Oxford singles win, Wake Forest suffered its second straight loss, this time by a score of 4-1.
Krystal Blanch and Aubrey Nisbet gave the Deacs an early advantage in the doubles session, blanking Mille Johanna Moerk and Anya Murthy in a 6-0 win. The Golden Bears would respond on courts two and three, though, and earned the doubles point with those wins.
In singles, Oxford won her match, leveling the score at one to kick off the session. She improved to 9-1 in singles matches this season; the freshman leads the team in singles wins and win percentage.
Cal responded with three consecutive straight-set singles wins to seal the match. The Deacs are still searching for their first road win of the season after a fruitless trip out west. Next week, though, they will return home, where they have been very good (7-1) this year. Wake Forest will host a pair of matches against Sunshine State foes over the weekend. No. 54 Miami comes to town Friday, and Florida State will visit Sunday.

How It Happened
From Coach Wyshner
"Any time you are playing a top ranked team on the road, you know it is going to be a challenging day. Add in having only six players available to play and having had a long day yesterday, and I am really impressed with the fight our group showed today. Our doubles looked better again, and we played some good singles against a very good team; a team that has last year's number one playing number three this year. I'm looking forward to getting an ACC home weekend next week! Hope we'll get some fans out to support us in two big matches, Miami on Friday and Florida State on Sunday! Go Deacs!"
