Wake Forest concluded its regular season with a pair of meets, competing at both the Jim Green Invitational and the Duke Twilight.
Sophomore Rosalind Gergely led the way for the Deacs at the Jim Green Invitational as she secured a first-place finish in the women's javelin with a throw of 50.39 meters on her final attempt. The Pottsville, Pa., native has now claimed four first-place finishes this season and has placed either first or second in all five meets she has competed in this season.
Meanwhile, multiple Demon Deacons secured top-15 finishes at the Duke Twilight. Senior Elizabeth Whaley led the way for the Demon Deacons as she added another podium finish in the women's 1500 meters. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native clocked a time of 4:10.86 to earn a second-place finish.
Fellow senior Emma Douglass recorded one of her best meets of the outdoor season as she registered a seventh-place finish in the women's 800 meters after posting a season-best time of 2:04.62.
Meanwhile, sophomore Amy Weybrecht finished 15th in the women's 800 meters, logging a personal-best time of 2:05.69. Weybrecht has had an incredible sophomore campaign for the Deacs as she currently sits fourth all-time in program history after Sunday's performance.
On the men's side, senior Bryce Gilmore clocked a personal-best time of 3:42.08 to secure a 13th-place finish in the men's 1500 meters. Meanwhile, freshman Landon Pretre and graduate student Lucas Guerra posted season-best times in the 1500 meters, as Pretre crossed the finish line in 3:42.91 to place 19th, while Guerra clocked a time of 3:43.58 to earn a top-25 result.
Freshman Max Cervi-Skinner closed out the evening with a strong performance in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, taking home third place with a time of 8:50.00. With the result, the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, native now ranks fourth in Wake Forest history in the event.
Last Year at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships
The Demon Deacons logged a solid outing in front of a packed Kentner Stadium last year at the 2025 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, highlighted by eight Deacs securing All-ACC honors.
Seren Rodgers grabbed the first All-ACC honor for the Deacs on the second day of competition, as she placed sixth with 5,094 points in the women's heptathlon, helping her secure Second Team All-ACC honors. Hunter Jones added a Second Team All-ACC recognition of his own later in the evening as he recorded a fifth-place finish in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase.
On the final day, six Demon Deacons brought home Second Team All-ACC honors, including three in the men's 1500 meters. The trio of Paul Specht, Luke Tewalt and Rocky Hansen finished in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively to be named All-ACC. Tewalt would add a second All-ACC honor later in the day as he registered a fourth-place finish in the men's 5000 meters.
Elsewhere, senior Rynard Swanepoel landed an All-ACC honor as he clocked a season-best time of 1:46.29 in the men's 800 meters.
On the women's side, graduate student Ryland Engels added a sixth-place result in the women's 1500 meters, while Rosalind Gergely placed fifth in the women's javelin.
The John Hayes Era
Currently in his 10th season as the director of the Wake Forest track and cross country programs, head coach John Hayes has helped the Demon Deacons rise to the highest ranks in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Under his leadership, the Deacs have claimed two ACC championships in men's cross country over the past three seasons, including their most recent title during the 2024 season. The men's cross country team has also finished inside the top-10 at the NCAA Cross Country Championships three times during Hayes' tenure, including a seventh-place finish in 2024 and a fifth-place finish in 2022. Hayes, who was named both Southeast Region and ACC Coach of the Year in 2022 and 2024, has also produced seven All-Americans in cross country, including junior Rocky Hansen, who finished as national runner-up at the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Along with his achievements in cross country, Hayes has also helped guide the Deacs into success in both indoor and outdoor track and field. In outdoor track and field alone, the Deacs have earned 69 All-ACC honors under Hayes, as well as an individual ACC championship by Thomas Vanoppen in the 1500m back in 2022.
