WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The seventh-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team posted its sixth shut out of the season in defeating the Virginia Commonwealth Rams 7-0 Saturday at Kentner Stadium.

Wake Forest jumped to an early lead scoring five goals in the first 13 minutes of the game. Junior Jenny Everett scored the first three goals all in the first 10 minutes of play. Freshman Marlena Reese scored the next two goals and senior Samantha Rush added a goal late in the first half to send the Deacons to halftime with a commanding 6-0 lead.

The only goal scored in the second half was by freshman Heather Aughinbaugh with 24:31 to go in the game.

Everett led the team with three goals, while sophomore Jemima Cameron contributed three assists in the winning effort.

With the win, Wake Forest improves to 13-1 on the season and will travel to Durham, N.C. on Sunday to take on the Duke Blue Devils in a key ACC game. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
