Winston-Salem, NC - Wake Forest field hockey routed the Ohio State Buckeyes, 6-0, in the programs' first ever meeting. Deacons Tamar Meijer, Lauren Crandall, and Kelly Dostal scored in Friday's victory. Wake Forest improves to 3-0 on the season. "I thought both teams looked a bit sluggish at the beginning," said head coach Jennifer Averill. "But I thought we really turned up the heat, put our combinations together and played quite well. I was very proud of the way we played today." The Deacons jumped on the board early, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of play, both from freshman Tamar Meijer. The Buckeyes attempted to inbound a pass, but Meijer intercepted, turned and shot, for her third goal of the season. Kelly Dostal chipped to Meijer for a second goal just four minutes later, to give the Deacons the 2-0 edge. Wake Forest took a series of four penalty corners mid way through the first half, connecting on two of them. Claire Laubach injected to Maeke Boreel, who passed to Lauren Crandall for Crandall's first goal of the season. Minutes later, Kelly Dostal capitalized in the same fashion. Boreel was again credited with the assist. Laubach took each of the Deacon's 10 corners on the day. In the closing minutes of the first half, Dostal dribbled through two Buckeyes, tipped the ball to Chelsea Cipriani, whose pass back to Dostal rebounded off of the sliding Ohio State goal keeper. Dostal found the ball and the net for her second goal of the half. The Deac's controlled the first half, allowing Ohio State only one shot in the first 35 minutes of action. Wake Forest headed into the break with a 5-0 lead. In second half play, it was Kristi Harshman to Dostal for Deacon goal #6, at the 43:28 mark. Wake Forest took 35 shots on the day, while the Buckeyes fired twice. All Deacons saw playing time except Katelyn Hughson, who was sidelined with an injury. Sophomore goal keeper Kristina Gagliardi was credited with her first complete career shut out. The Deacons travel to Harrisonburg, Va. on Sunday for a match against James Madison. The Dukes are the last non-conference team to beat Wake Forest. Game time is set for 1:00 pm
