Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest men's and women's track teams concluded action at East Tennessee State University's Niswonger Invitational Saturday evening. Annie Bersagel, Michelle Sikes, Caitlin Chrisman, Jill Ahrens, Eric Seely, Brad Wharton and Brandon Bartholomew all posted top-five finishes in the Deacons' second meet of the indoor season.

Melissa Council finished 17th in the 200 meter race, with a time of 25.53. She ran a 9.29 in the 60 meter hurdles, good for a 26th place finish.

In the women's one mile run, Bersagel finished fourth, with a time of 4:52.92, just over five seconds behind the race winner, while freshman Merry Placer placed sixth with a 5:15.06 mark. Placer placed 15th in the 800 meter race, after running a 2:23.49.

Four Deacs finished in the top-10 in the 3,000 meter run: Sikes (3rd), Chrisman (4th), Hanna Bremler (6th) and Liz Hankinson (10th) ran times of 9:56.85, 9:58.12, 10:14.96 and 10:49.07 respectively. Ahrens placed 5th in the pole vault with a 3.20 meter performance, while Catherine Muehleib threw a 12.52 meter mark in the shot put, good for a 13th place finish.

The women's 400m relay placed 10th in the preliminaries and 11th in the finals, with times of 4:02.20 and 4:02.60.

The men were paced by junior Eric Seely, who in the 400 meter preliminary finished second with an automatically advancing time of 48.62. He went on to finish fifth in the final race, with a 48.86.

Wharton, Chris Catton and Sean Stevens claimed three of the top-10 spots in the one mile race, with times of 4:13.33, 4:15.36 and 4:17.45.

Shane Ahlers placed 11th after running an 8:43.71 in the 3,000 meter race. In the unseeded version of that event, Bartholomew placed second (8:35.31) and Joel Conn 14th (8:52.72).

Adam Gabrault placed eighth in the weight throw, with a toss of 16.43 meters.

The men's 4x400 meter relay preliminary race featured a 3:16.79 eighth place Deacon finish, while the distance medley group finished seventh (10:45.44).

The Deacons return to action next weekend, with teams traveling to the North Carolina Invitational as well as the Terrier Classic.
