Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest track and field team travels to Atlanta, Ga., on Saturday for the Yellow Jacket Invitational. The Deacons will bring mainly sprinters and field event participants to the George C. Griffin Track this weekend.
"This is another opportunity to step forward as a team," said Assistant Director of Track and Field Scott Hall. "We had some very positive things happen last weekend both at home and at Stanford. We want this to continue. For some this is an opportunity to compete at a high level at a great facility against good competition and for others it is another meet in the development process as well as opportunity to earn a spot on the travel roster for the ACC Championship."
Last weekend, senior Annie Bersagel set a personal, school and the 2005 national record in the 10k, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. She was named the NCAA and ACC Player of the Week for her efforts. Three other Deacons earned regional marks at the Stanford Invitational.
Deacons also faired well at the home meets over the past two weekends, as Mike Loyd, Lindsay Neuberger, Cassy Richards and Michelle Sikes each set regional qualifying marks in Kentner Stadium.
Wake Forest is off to one of the best outdoor seasons in recent school history. Paced by a strong group of underclassmen, the Deacons look to improve during the outdoor season upon seventh place finishes by both the men and women at the ACC Indoor Championship in March.
Livestats will be available during the meet on Saturday at www.RamblinWreck.com.
