No. 23 Wake Forest Women's Tennis Wins Third Straight

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 23 Wake Forest women's tennis team won its third straight match, defeating No. 20 Tennessee, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons improve to 3-0 overall, while the Lady Vols drop to 2-3 on the season.
Redshirt sophomore Alex Hirsch and junior Ashlee Davis led the Deacs to the doubles victory, defeating Melissa Schaub and Ghizela Schutte in the No. 1 position. Freshman Sierra Poske and junior Christine Simpson solidified the point with an 8-3 victory over Stephanie Harris and Samantha Orlin in the No. 3 position.
In singles, the Deacs swept the first five spots, including a three set battle at No. 5. Sophomore Jenna Loeb dropped the first set against Harris, 5-7, but came back and won the second 7-5. In the tiebreaker, Loeb dominated and won the match, 10-2.
Overall in 2006, Wake Forest has won 17 of its 18 singles matches and six of its nine doubles matches.
Next up on the Demon Deacons slate will be No. 22 Notre Dame on Sat., Feb. 11 and then No. 49 Illinois on Sun., Feb. 12. Both matches will be played at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center and will begin at 12:00 p.m.
