Michelle Sikes Advances To NCAA Finals in 5,000 Meters

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - - Wake Forest junior Michelle Sikes advanced to the NCAA finals of the 5,000 meters after recording an eighth-place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 16:11.28, Wednesday evening at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.
With the top-18 runners advancing, Sikes will compete in the finals on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Lakewood, Ohio native qualified for the championship meet by finishing sixth at the East Regionals with a personal best of 16:07.44. Prior to that meet, Sikes earned All-ACC accolades after finishing third at the conference championships.
Also competing at the NCAA Championships this week will be the Wake Forest men's 4x400 relay team of Michael Bingham, Willie Idlette, Brent LaRue and Eric Seely. The team will race on Thursday at 6:55 p.m. The top eight teams will advance to the finals, which will be run on Saturday, June 10 at 2:55 p.m. Bingham also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400 meter dash, but opted to not to run it.
