WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sophomore Minou Gimbrere put in a pair and five others scored as the No. 1 Wake Forest field hockey team cruised past Kent State, 7-0, Friday afternoon. The win is the Demon Deacons fifth shutout of the season and improves Wake to 8-0 on the year, while the loss drops the Golden Flashes to 1-6.

Wake Forest has 12 different players that have scored so far this season, with eight of them putting in multiple goals. In total, the Demon Deacons have scored 40, while allowing just three goals all season.

The Demon Deacons scored five goals in the first half, including three in the first 10 minutes of the game.  Senior Kristi Harshman got things started at the 3:52 mark as she earned her second goal of the season off the first corner of the day. Gimbrere picked up her first of the day just two and a half minutes later at the 6:44 mark as she scored off another corner. Sophomore Michelle Kasold finished off the scoring sequence as she earned her sixth goal of the season off a shot from the top right side of the circle at 9:42.

Wake Forest continued to control the pace of the game as twins Tracey and Haley Scott scored back to back goals at the end of the first half. Tracey put it in first off a deflection from a Kent State defender. Haley answered four minutes later with a goal from the top right side of the circle.

In the second half, Gimbrere earned her second goal of the game and third of the season with the help of freshman Regina Shannon. Shannon then scored one of her own at the 51:40 mark as she put one in unassisted. Shannon currently has a pair of goals and three assists on the year.

The Demon Deacons took 30 shots on the night, while giving up just two. They took 11 penalty corners and Kent State only earned one. Senior Kristina Gagliardi picked up her eighth win of the season and shared time in the cage with sophomore Crystal Duffield. Playing 14 minutes, Duffield earned one save on the evening. Linz Markwart and Kara Copeland also shared time in goal for Kent State, recording seven and two saves, respectively.

Wake Forest will return to action tomorrow against Michigan State. Game time in Kent, Ohio is set for 12:00 p.m.
