Deacons Ranked 24th In Preseason ITA Poll

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team is ranked 24th in the preseason poll administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Senior All-American Todd Paul is ranked fourth in singles and is the second-highest American player.
Paul's ranking is the highest-ever by a Wake Forest men's player. The native of Stamford, Conn., went 11-2 during the fall, including seven wins against nationally-ranked opponents.
The Atlantic Coast Conference is loaded again in 2007. The Deacons are one of eight league teams ranked in the top 26. Ten of the conference's 12 schools are ranked in the top 55, including Duke (7th), Virginia (8th), Miami (11th), Florida State (15th), North Carolina (22nd), Clemson (23rd), Wake Forest (24th), Georgia Tech (26th), NC State (37th) and Virginia Tech (52nd).
Georgia is the nation's preseason number one team. Baylor, Ohio State, UCLA and Illinois round out the top five.
Wake Forest kicks off the spring season Jan. 27 in Evanston, Ill., against 42nd-ranked San Diego. The Deacons open their home schedule on February 3 against William & Mary at 10:00 a.m. and Elon at 5:00 p.m.
