Winston-Salem, N.C. - The 12th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team appeared to have all the momentum after capturing the doubles point against third-ranked Virginia, but the Cavaliers rallied to defeat Wake Forest 4-2. The loss snapped the Deacons' nine-match winning streak.

Virginia improved to 16-3, 4-0 in the ACC while Wake Forest slipped to 14-2, 2-1 in conference action.

The Deacons started on the right foot by capturing the doubles point in front of a rambunctious crowd of several hundred Wake Forest supporters. All three matches came down to dramatic tiebreakers. The first completed doubles match went to Virginia at number two, meaning that the Deacons would need the other two to earn the doubles point.

Wake Forest's number one team of Todd Paul and Mariusz Adamski, ranked 25th, upset the nation's second-ranked doubles team, Somdev Devvarman and Treat Huey, 9-8 (5).

In light of the Deacon victory on court one, the doubles point would be decided on court three where Andrew Hamar and Steven Forman were playing together for the first time since early-February. They held off the Cavaliers, 9-8 (3) and improved their season mark to 4-1.

Unfortunately for the Deacons, singles was a different story. The Cavaliers evened the score with a straight set win at number five singles. Virginia's Houston Barrick defeated Wake Forest rookie Steven Forman, 6-2, 6-0. It was Forman's first loss in exactly a month.

The marquee singles matchup of the day never materialized as second-ranked Somdev Devvarman of Virginia defeated seventh-ranked Todd Paul of Wake Forest, 6-2, 6-3.

A few moments later, Virginia made the score 3-0 as Marko Miklo defeated Andrew Hamar, 6-2, 6-2. It was Hamar's first loss of the season at the number four position.

Wake Forest would continue to fight as Cory Parr extended his personal winning streak to nine with an upset win over 22nd-ranked Treat Huey, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Parr improved his season record to 23-4.

But Virginia put the match away when 84th-ranked Dominic Inglot handed Mariusz Adamski a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 defeat.

Jason Morgenstern's match at number six was abandoned after one set with the team result already in the books.

Virginia has now won the last six meetings with Wake Forest dating back to the 2003 ACC Championships.

The Deacons' rigorous schedule of home matches continues on Wednesday when 14th-ranked North Carolina comes to Leighton Stadium.  First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
