SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A total of four Demon Deacons competed over the weekend at the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame, which served as an NCAA Regional event. Sisters Dina and Anna Nosenko each recorded personal-bests in their respective events to lead the Wake Forest foursome.
Dina Nosenko came into the meet after running a personal-best 4:53.00 in the mile run last week at the ACC Championships. She improved that mark to 4:50.39 but wound up finishing 15th in a very strong field.
On Friday night, her sister Anna Nosenko won the women's 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 16:25.91. She bettered her previous personal-best of 16:32.22 which she also set last weekend at the ACC Championships. That time was the 33rd-best time in the country coming into the weekend and her time Friday night would move her into 27th place.
Junior Jon Reid, coming off a career-best 46.83 in the 400-meter dash last weekend at the ACCs, finished fourth overall this weekend with a time of 47.00. Reid's time of 46.83 had him ranked 20th coming into the weekend.
Fellow junior Nicole Castronuova took tenth in the women's 400-meter run with a time of 55.00. She shaved over a second and a half off her personal-best last weekend at the ACCs, clocking in at 54.39. That time had her 36th on the performance list.
These four will now wait to see if they receive an invitational to next week's NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas. Junior Brent LaRue has automatically qualified for the championship for the Deacs in the heptathlon and will likely be joined by senior Michael Bingham, who had the fifth-best time of 46.23 in the men's 400-meter coming into the weekend.
