BLACKSBURG, Va. - Senior Nicole Castronuova continued her solid weekend with a fifth-place showing in the women's 200m dash on Saturday to lead the Wake Forest track & field team on day two of the Virginia Tech Invitational at the Rector Field House.
Castronuova took second in her heat but fifth overall with a solid time of 25.05. She also ran a 39.67 to finish 14th in the 300m dash Friday night. Freshman Myesha Barr won her heat of the 200m dash, finishing 20th overall at 26.12 while Katelyn Wohlford crossed the line in at 27.02.
Molly Fresher started her 2010 season on Saturday by finishing 13th in the 800m meter run with a time of 2:25.47.
On the men's side, senior Thomas Sensing had his best toss of the young season in the shot put, finishing ninth with a mark of 50-4.50 (15.35m). Brent LaRue and Alex Hill also competed in the shot put, finishing 18th and 19th, respectively.
In the men's 800m run, senior Jon Reid turned in a time of 1:59.45, taking 14th while sophomore Justin Bookheimer finished 17th at 2:00.85.
Senior Caroline Vaughn had a personal-best leap of 18-6.00 (5.64m) in the long jump to finish 13th overall. She bested her previous top-mark of 18-5.75 which she turned in at the Deacon Combined Events last May. Freshman Gwen Ricco also had a good showing in the long jump, finishing 18th with a mark of 17-6.00 (5.33m).
Vaughn then joined Gwen Ricco, Alex Gove and Castronuova for the 4x400m relay in which the team finished 11th with a time of 3:52.80.
The Deacons will be right back in Blacksburg next weekend for the Hokie Invitational on Jan. 22-23.
