Deacs Wrap Up Day One at ACC Championships

DURHAM, N.C. - Junior thrower Sarah Brobeck set a new personal-best mark in the javelin throw en route to a top-ten finish, and the Wake Forest women's track and field team wrapped up Day One of competition at the ACC Championships at Duke University's Wallace Wade Stadium.
Gwen Ricco and Erika Martin represented the Deacs in the heptathlon, while Marley Burns raced in the 10,000-meters and Carmen Green competed in the discus throw, finishing tenth overall.
ACC Championship action will continue tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m. with the women's shot. Action on the track is set to start at 4 p.m. with the women's 1500-meter run. Additionally, the remainder of both the heptathlon and decathlon events will conclude tomorrow.

Below is an event-by-event breakdown of competition from Day One of the ACC Championships.
Heptathlon
Through the first four events of the heptathlon, sophomore Gwen Ricco currently ranks tenth overall in the heptathlon, while Erika Martin comes in at 12th place.
100m Hurdles (Event 1 of 7)
Gwen Ricco turned in her top time of the year in the 100m hurdles, crossing the line in 15.26 to place tenth overall among 14 competitors. Erika Martin placed eighth in the event with a time of 15.13, narrowly missing her season-best mark of 15.07 set at the Wake Forest Open.
High Jump (Event 2 of 7)
Martin surpassed her previous top jump by almost four inches, as she cleared a height of 5-4.25 to place seventh in the field. Ricco also set a new personal-best in the high jump, clearing 4-10.25 to claim 12th place.
Shot Put (Event 3 of 7)
Ricco led the way in perhaps her strongest event in the heptathlon, finishing sixth in the shot put with a new season-best mark of 35-0.25. Ricco surpassed her previous top distance of 33-10 recorded earlier this season at the Wake Forest Open.
Martin placed 14th in the event with a throw of 26-6.25.
200m (Event 4 of 7)
Martin set a new personal-best mark in the 200m, crossing the line in 26.72 to place eleventh. Ricco sprinted to a seventh-place finish in a time of 26.12.
10,000m
Senior Marley Burns raced in the 10,000m for the first time this season, and the Weaverville, N.C. native crossed the finish line in 37:18.89 to claim 17th place.
Discus Throw
The Deacon throwing duo of Carmen Green and Sarah Brobeck finished in back-to-back positions, as Green finished tenth with a throw of 141-7, and Brobeck turned in a toss of 134-4 to place 11th.
Javelin Throw
Sarah Brobeck turned in the best throw of her career in the javelin, as she covered a distance of 130-2 to place ninth. Brobeck crushed her previous-best mark of 123-2, set two weekends ago at the Duke Invitational.
