WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Taylor Rhea scored three goals while Lindsay Graham had two as No. 14 Wake Forest defeated Appalachian State 9-0 at Kentner Stadium on Tuesday night.
Rhea's three goals are a career-high in a game and give her five on the season. Graham tallied her first two collegiate goals with two in the second half. Molly Murphy, Anna Koznuik, Krysta Wangerin and Holly Brown each added goals in the game.
Goalkeeper Valerie Dahmen made two saves before giving way to Katie Osborne who played the last 27:48 of the game.
Sarah Anderson had 21 saves for the Mountaineers who move to 2-7 on the season. Wake Forest improves to an overall record of 8-3 with the victory.
Rhea put Wake Forest on the board in the 9th minute of the first half off a pass from Kari Walkley. She added her second of the game off a pass from Lauren Rogers who was stopped twice and then dished it off to Rhea who scored the goal.
Murphy made it 3-0 with 29 seconds left in the first half for her first goal of the season.
After halftime, Kozniuk launched a rocket in the 38th minute which was followed nearly a minute later by Graham for her first goal of the game.
Brown notched her fifth goal of the season in the 43rd minute while Rhea had her third a minute later.
Graham put Wake Forest up 8-0 at 45:54 while Wangerin finished off the scoring with a goal at 58:56 for a final score of 9-0.
Wake Forest held the advantage in shots (43-3) and penalty corners (12-1).
The Demon Deacons return to action on Sunday when Wake Forest takes on No. 7 Duke in Durham, N.C. at 1 p.m.
