Bojanowski and Gathings Lead Deacs in Virginia Tech Challenge

Blacksburg, Va. - The Wake Forest track and field team performed well during the first day of competition at the Virginia Tech Challenge meet. The two day event is taking place at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va. and is the third meet the Deacons have raced at Virginia Tech this season.
Senior Thomas Bojanowski led the Deacs capturing a first place finish and breaking the current school record in the 600m with a time of 1:18.33.
Senior Mytoia Gathings posted strong results placing fifth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.74 and secured a sixth place finish in the 200m with a time of 24.89.
Sophomore Kendal Knous placed fifth crossing the line with a time of 1:33.77 in the 600m.
In the field events, freshman Casidy Callahan led the Deacs capturing a third place finish in the women's weight throw with a mark of 17.03m. In the men's weight throw freshmen Kyle Johnson placed fourth (16.27m), senior Teddy Mottola placed fifth (15.92m) and senior Nate Wooten placed seventh (15.66m).
The Deacons will compete in the second day of the Virginia Tech Challenge tomorrow. The field events will begin with the women's high jump at 11 a.m. and the running events will begin at 1 p.m. with the women's 800m run.
