ATLANTA - Wake Forest baseball fell in the series finale to Georgia Tech on Sunday 5-1 at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Will Craig homered for Wake Forest (11-5, 2-1 ACC) in the top of the second inning but Georgia Tech (8-7, 1-2 ACC)responded with three runs in the bottom of the third and added two more in the fifth en route to the 5-1 victory.
Craig went 2-for-3 with a walk on the day, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. His homer in the second inning was the third of the season for Craig who leads the team after recording one in Friday's game against the Yellow Jackets.
Charlie Morgan went 2-for-4 while Conor Keniry and Jonathan Pryor connected for a hit each in the game.
Wake Forest won Friday and Saturday's games against the Yellow Jackets ensuring the series win against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, a first since the 2001 season. The Demon Deacons though were unable to get much offensively going against the Yellow Jackets pitchers.
After a scoreless first inning, Wake Forest got on the board first as Craig homered to left field for his third homer of the year and the second of the Georgia Tech series.
Georgia Tech scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning as Matt Gonzalez grounded out for an RBI. On the same play, an error led to another run as the Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead. After back-to-back doubles, Georgia Tech extended its advantage to 3-1.
The Yellow Jackets made it a 5-1 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wake Forest loaded the bases in the seventh with one out but was unable to score any runs as Georgia Tech got out of the jam. Wake Forest loaded the bases again in the ninth inning but couldn't plate any runs as the Yellow Jackets closed out the game.
Connor Kaden (1-1) took the loss on the mound while giving up three earned runs and five runs with four strikeouts and two walks. Max Tishman, John McCarren and Mat Pirro each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Matt Gonzalez, Thomas Smith and Elliot Barzilli each had an RBI to lead the Yellow Jackets. Matt Grimes earned the win.
