Deacons Finish up Competition at Highlander Invite

RADFORD, Va. - Wake Forest placed several athletes in the top 10 of their events in the last day of the Highlander Invitational on Saturday, including six top five finishes, on Saturday.
Lara-Ann Schwede led the Demon Deacons in the meet with a first-place finish in the women's 800m run. The Wake Forest freshman finished with a time of 2:17.1 to take the top spot.
In the women's 400m hurdles, Mia Wilson added another top three finish for the Deacons. Her time of 1:05.74 was good for third place in the meet. Maya Hinton finished seventh in the 400m dash to finish the track events for Wake Forest.
The Deacons posted two top-five finished in women's throws. Emily Campbell, off her second place finish in the discus yesterday, finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 12.15m. Andrea Vahoua also finished fourth in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 50.47, a new personal best. She moves from third to second on Wake Forest's all-time performance list.
The Demon Deacons performed strong in the men's throwing events. In the men's shot put, Steve Michaelson took second place with a mark of 15.12 m. Max Adams threw a 48.61m in the men's discus, good for second in the meet. Adams also placed in the top three in the men's shot put with a mark of 14.51m.
Kyle Johnson finished in third place in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.52m to round out the throws for the Demon Deacon men.
Wake Forest placed two runners in the top 10 of the men's 800m run. John Archie finished ninth with a time of 1:57.68, and Ryan Horgan finished right behind him at 1:58.15.
