WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem on Friday and Saturday.
Events will start at 1 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
In total, 43 Demon Deacon student-athletes will take part in the event. On the men's side, 20 Deacs will compete in 11 different events, while 23 Wake Forest women's student-athletes will compete in 14 different events.
Included on that list are Samantha Jones, Robert Heppenstall and Simon Holden, who will participate in the Camel City Elite races on Saturday afternoon. Jones, coming off an All-American campaign in cross country will run in the 3,000m, while freshman Heppenstall will run in the 800m and Holden will run in the mile.
In Wake Forest's last time out, team teams combined for 15 top-two finishes at the UNCG Spartan Team Challenge meet at the JDL Fast Track last Sunday. The Demon Deacons were scheduled to compete at Virginia Tech's Hokie Invitational, but that meet was canceled due to weather.
Alexander Giacco won the men's mile, Sydney White took the women's pole vault title and Charlie Ionata and Alva Hicks won the men's and women's weight throw events, respectively.
Hicks, a freshman, has won the women's weight throw twice and has broken her own school record in the event in each of the team's last two meets. Her current career record is 18.64m.
The Demon Deacons will resume indoor action next week at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet. That competition will mark the first time all season the Deacs will leave Winston-Salem.
