Deacs Complete First Day of Camel City Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams completed the first of two days of competition at the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track on Friday. In total, the Demon Deacons competed in 15 events and racked up 12 top-10 finishes.
Amy Collins gave the Deacs an event title win, winning the long jump with a 5.37m mark that matched her career best and set a new personal record for indoor competitions.
Three Wake Forest student-athletes had third-place showings in Sebastian Fischbach, Alexander Giacco and Alexandria Florent. Fischbach put up a 8:17.97 time in the men's 3,000m, while Giacco had a 14:53.90 time in the 5,000m and Florent had a 1.69m leap in the high jump.
School record holder Alva Hicks placed fourth in the women's weight throw, leading a trio of top-10 Demon Deacons in the event. Andrea Vahoua took seventh, while Casidy Callahan came in 10th. On the men's side, Charlie Ionata came in fourth and was followed in fifth by teammate Kyle Johnson.
Rounding out eight Wake Forest competitors to place fifth or better was Kathryn Lazarchick, who used a 2:14.41 time to place fourth in the women's 800m.
The Demon Deacons will wrap up the Camel City Invitational on Saturday. Runners Samantha Jones, Robert Heppenstall and Simon Holden will end the day by participating in the Camel City Elite races. The teams' next competition will be next week at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet.
