HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Both the Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams have the highest team scores after one day of competition at the Chipotle Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W.Va. The Deacon teams combined for four event wins on the afternoon.
The Demon Deacon men lead a field of eight teams with 46 team points, while Appalachian State is in second with 43. The Wake Forest women posted 39.5 team points and lead the second-place Mountaineer women by 11 points. There are nine total women's teams in the meet.
Winning on the men's side for the Old Gold and Black were Craig Corti and Charlie Ionata. Corti's 14:51.58 time won the 5,000m run. He was followed by teammate Alexander Giacco in third. Ionata took first in the weight throw with a toss of 19.28m. It was the junior's fourth event title of the season.
The women took the top two spots in the distance medley relay with the quartet of Kathryn Lazarchick, Emma Gallagher, Kendal Knous and Samantha Jones winning the event by clocking in at 11:40.70. Jenna Truedson, Caitlin Krol, Lara-Ann Schwede and Ellie Abrahamson were the runners up at 12:04.71.
