HUNTINGTON, W.Va. --The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams won a combined six events on the final day of the Chipotle Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W.Va. on Saturday.
In the two-day event, the Demon Deacons finished first in 10 of the 32 events that were scored, winning four titles on the meet's first day.
On the men's side, Simon Holden used a 4:09.12 mile to win that event. Fellow Deacon distance runner Sebastian Fischbach won the 3,000m with an 8:24.46 finish. The Deacs also continued a run of recent success in relays with a 4x400m relay victory. Bobby Jacowleff, John Archie, Robert Heppenstall and Andrew Fea finished the race in 3:19.82.
John Maurins gave Wake Forest a first-place performance on the field side by taking the men's shot put with an 18.08m toss. It was his first event win of the year after posting a pair of top-three finishes in his first two meets.
For the women, Kendal Knous took the top spot in the 800m with a 2:12.57 time. Samantha Jones won the 3,000m, clocking in at 9:40.16.
Posting runner-up performances for the Deacons were Alexander Krall in the men's 60m, Robert Heppenstall in the men's 400m, Andrew Fea in the men's 800m, Hunter Roberts in the women's 60m hurdles, Kathryn Lazarchick in the women's mile and Alexandria Florent in the women's high jump.
On Feb 19-20, the Deacs are scheduled to resume indoor action when they send competitors to the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, Va. and the UCS Invitational in Winston-Salem.
