First Day of ACC Championships Concludes

BOSTON -- The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams completed the first day of competition at the ACC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury Crossing, Mass. on Thursday. The men's team is in seventh place with six team points after two scored events and the women's team does not yet have a team score.
Events held on Thursday included the distance medley relay, weight throw, the first four events of the men's heptathlon and the full women's pentathlon.
For the Demon Deacons, the men's distance medley relay team had the highest finish. Sebastian Fischbach, John Archie, Robert Heppenstall and Simon Holden completed the race in 9:40.15 to take fourth place and claim five team points.
Charlie Ionata also earned a team point with an eighth-place showing the men's weight throw using a toss of 19.34m.
Alexander Krall is in 10th in the men's heptathlon with a score of 2,782 after completing the 60m, long jump, shot put and high jump. His best finish came with in the shot put, in which he came in fifth with a throw of 13.10m. The heptathlon will conclude with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and the 1,000m.
On the women's side, Amy Collins finished 12th in the pentathlon with a score of 3,528. Her highest finish in an isolated event was 10th in the high jump. She cleared 1.62m.
In the women's weight throw, Alva Hicks led a trio of Deacs with a mark of 17.29m, which slotted her in 13th place.
Competition on the second day of the conference meet on Friday begins at 11 a.m. Live coverage of the event will air on ESPN3 from 5-8 p.m. The meet will conclude on Saturday.
