Deacs Wrap Up Second Day at ACCs

BOSTON -- The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams completed the second day of competition at the ACC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury Crossing, Mass. on Friday. Three Demon Deacons were finals qualifiers for their events and three more earned all-conference honors.
Both Deacon teams are in 11th place through two days.
Standing in 10th after the first day of the meet with four of the seven heptathlon events in the books, Alexander Krall posted a strong finish to the event to move into sixth and grab Second Team All-ACC accolades. The Deacon senior came in second in the 60m hurdles, fourth in the pole vault and ninth in the 1,000m to finish with a final score of 5,222.
Fellow senior Samantha Jones, who entered the meet with an outdoor all-league plaudit in the 5,000m to her name, earned the same honor indoors on Friday. Jones had a 5,000m time of 16:15.77.
Achieving All-ACC status for the fourth time was women's pole vaulter Sydney White. Her jump of 4.07m put her in a tie for fifth. She placed fifth for the third time at the meet. White also had a third-place, First Team All-ACC showing last season as a junior.
On the men's side, Robert Heppenstall won the 800m preliminaries, clocking in at 1:49.58. Simon Holden also qualified for the finals, finishing less than a second later at 1:50.44 to place third. For the women, Kathryn Lazarchick used a 4:43.73 time in the women's mile to qualify for the finals, placing eighth in the preliminary round.
The ACC Championships will conclude on Saturday with events beginning at 11 a.m. Live coverage of the event will air on ESPN3 from 1-4 p.m.
