BLACKSBURG, Va. – Wake Forest earned event titles in three of the seven events in which it competed on the final day of the Virginia Tech Doc Hale Elite Meet at the Rector Fieldhouse in Blacksburg, Va. on Saturday.
Sydney White broke her own school record in the women's indoor pole vault competition, while the Demon Deacon squads in both the men's and the women's 4x800m relay races took first place.
White won the women's pole vault with a mark of 4.20m, besting her previous Wake Forest indoor record of 4.12m, a height she cleared twice. The senior from Kernersville, N.C. also registered a 4.20m jump at the NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary Round in 2014. She has now won the event twice this season as she also took first place at the UNCG Spartan Team Challenge on Jan. 24.
In the men's 4x800m relay, the Deacon quartet of Andrew Fea, Sebastian Fischbach, Robert Heppenstall and Simon Holden posted a 7:26.74 time to win the race, outpacing second-place Georgia Tech by nearly 10 seconds.
On the women's side in the 4x800m, Jenna Truedson, Kendal Knous, Libby Parrish and Kathryn Lazarchick teamed up to finish in 9:04.70, 8.81 seconds ahead of a runner-up group from North Carolina.
Also picking up top-five finishes on the day were John Maurins, who took third in the men's shot put, and women's high jumpers Amy Collins and Alexandria Florent, who both had marks of 1.68m.
The Deacs ended the weekend with 12 finishes inside the top five after having six on Friday. Also on the teams' first day of competition, Simon Holden had a first-place performance in the mile with a time of 1:49.51.
Next week, Wake Forest will head to Huntington, W.Va. for the Chipotle Marshall Invitational. On Feb 19-20, the Deacs are scheduled to send competitors to the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg and the UCS Invitational in Winston-Salem.
